I'm smart enough to know what I don't know. So though I've been spending a good amount of time dialing in some John Mayer tones for the Line 6 pack I'm building I've also been watching videos by Justin Jeske, who's channel specializes in John Mayer and John Frusciante's gear. We'll go over the different eras of Mayers career talking about the amps and pedals, what's new over time and what has stayed the same.
No matter how you feel about Mayer's song writing, there is no question that he has been a consummate gear hound over the years and has achieved some truly beautiful blues tones.
Hope to see you there.

Keith thank you so much for having me! I hope everyone enjoyed the stream, it was a lot of fun to sit down and talk about John's gear! That hour went by so fast! 😅 I am sorry we didn't have time to get through a lot of questions, but if anyone has any please reply to this thread and I'll do my best to get through them all! Cheers everyone!

At first I thought it was too much how in depth you've gone into John's gear over the years. Now I've watched over half of your videos and learned a lot that I wanted to know. Thanks for putting the work in, I really appreciate it

Keith - what can we say, you just bring it! Time after time! thanks so very much.
Great discussion!!! Tons of great info all in one place…thanks guys!!!
Wow great in-depth and interesting info!

Another great live!!!!
What a fantastic video steam interview
Super interesting conversation. In my early teens I was all about the Les Paul/Marshall thing, but that changed because of SRV. He made me love the Strat too. Mayer and Frusciante both have really cool Strat sounds. I've subscribed to Justin's channel - it looks really cool.
Another top show fellas thanks, very interesting deepish dive. A probably missed it, the difference between Strat, and silver sky boards. 👍👍🥃Respect to you fellas.
The SOB Rock tour pedal board at 53:27 also has an API Select TranZformer CMP Compressor (blue pedal at bottom of board)
I vote for Keith to be the next Wolverine in the MCU. Seriously Justin’s channel is a wealth of knowledge for Frusciante and Mayer fans. Great job guys.
Well this was a whole lot of fun! I got a TS10 back in the 80s because... it was the current TS being sold. Kept it all these years although it's not on the board. I do think it does something distinct from a TS9 or TS mini (both of which are just fine) but arguably they are all still TS pedals. The TS10 has to my ear both more gain as well as a slightly different gain structure - I'd argue slightly smoother.
Great video.
Hi Keith! Sorry I missed this one live, but I was fighting with my phone company (being as old school as I am, I still have not only a LAND LINE phone, but it’s a COPPER WIRE PAIR! Not even fiber optic! And it’s been out for THREE MONTHS!). It doesn’t affect the computers - they ARE fiber optic. Anyway, I’m watching the Justin Jeske interview right now. There! Made it to the end. Excellent video! But you and I need to talk sometime soon about TV Direction techniques for these live streams. I can help you make them better!
John is one of the few people I’ve seen using a vintage Fender Bandmaster head. I have a ‘65 and it’s my main live amp. For my needs, I actually prefer it to the Bassman amps from the same era. The Bandmaster is _great_ with pedals. They’re still kind of sleepers, so they aren’t too expensive. I got one in excellent condition for like $550.
⚓️ Thanks Justin Keith 😎

Thanks Keith
Love the Werewolf look!
Early on he was truly chasing SRV,..and more recently hes spoken about more of an 80s Clapton tone for his latest album and also a late 70s "yacht rock" typer vibe.
I found a vintage ts10 on facebook flea market, paid $250 and I don't have many pedals but it's by far my favorite.
While watching the livestream and noticing the numerous photo's of Mayer's massive pedal boards, I was reminded of a video I caught a couple years ago on Ramon Goose's The Guitar Show KZread channel in which his friend, Bob Wooton, was relating some stories about serving as a guitar tech at Clapton's Crossroads Fest of that year (2019). When Ramon asked Bob about Clapton's rig, Bob said Clapton had a strat which went into a wah pedal which went into a Fender Bandmaster. Minimalism.

I'm looking forward to the black Strat episode.
Love your work Keith…I’ve been catching up on some episodes that are new to me and two things jump out to me about gear. 1, I need to try a Strandberg, and 2, I need to save for a Helix Stomp. See Keith, you’re an influencer, right? Lol. Sincere thanks, mate.
Very interesting !! I don't understand the JM haters.
I just heard to mention possibly getting @DavidBeebee on in the future. Please do. He's intelligent and highly skilled on guitar.
Can you make video about Bob Marley and his guitars n effectpedals? Awesome channel btw, watching almost every episode👍🏻
Are The Smoke Hounds from Lafayette, Indiana?
I read somewhere that John blacked out his Klon because the stage lights reflects in the silver klon too much
When you see 2 katana’s, one of them is going into the qtron + fx loop along with the klon.
@JustinJeske
Жыл бұрын
Not quite! John will run a Katana into the loop of the Q-tron Plus sometimes, but not all the time. He never runs the Klon into that loop either! 🙂 The board at 46:46 is all in series and has one for Boost and Level (they are labeled) and the one at 48:43 actually has THREE Katana's! The third one that time is in the Q-tron loop, but none of the other boards in this video have the Katana (or Klon for that matter) into the Q-tron!
🎯
IMHO, Katana boost isn’t just a clean boost. It adds more definition and very slight brightness. Set at “unity” (no level boost) it adds some “presences” and details.

John Mayer used a FRACTAL for his recent album on some tracks. He is a Fractal user, who has worked with the Fractal people. Once again, I suggest you try Fractal. You shut me down last time saying "Im an HX Stomp man." Okay dude..... well John Mayer is a Fractal and Dumble man.
I got a TS10 for $40 at Music Go Round in 2009 and sold it for $200 a couple years later. wish I would've waited 😂
Do you have any info about the violin private stock custom 24 Mayer is holding in the title image?
@fivewattworld
Жыл бұрын
Ask Justin. Private Stock are unique of course.
Great video Keith! I learned a lot as usual. You mentioned a future Gilmour Bl Strat video.. He is one of my fav's. I looked at the Fender copies of the Black Strat, then built my own. I could send you some info, pic's and a link if your interested. I found a Strat shop in Ca. that built the loaded pick guard that is as good, if not better than Fender's!! 8) JMHO --gary
My question for Justin- how did you get to the point of caring enough about this to do this work? Was it because you knew there would be a market for the information? Or are you just that into JM and JF?

I guess I just always found it super fascinating the differences over the years in terms of gear and I just slowly learned this stuff. The Channel came as a result of a lot of people in a Facebook group I'm in coming to me with their questions, so I figured it was the best place to share my knowledge!

Interesting. However, I think JM could pick up any guitar and plug into a basic tube amp and sound like JM. Conversely, we could buy any pedal, amp, or guitar that JM has used and not get there. Better to find your sound with your hands first. Periodically, unplug everything and work on that foundation.
