By far the best guitarist of our time! Slash would have to come close and then Satriani and Steve Vai but they're way out of left field really. Not only that but also the best singer/songwriter of our time. Closest would be Dave Mathews and I have to say their probably actually even but on a good day John would be better. The dude's way gifted! WAY GIFTED! And he works his arse off too, God bless him. He's a worker!
