Being a lifelong Deadhead, I thought the remaining members of the Grateful Dead had lost their minds bringing John Mayer in to essentially fill the biggest pair of shoes left empty when Garcia died.I thought what are they doing bringing this pop star into the band. Well I can assure you Mayer fits nicely into the band and is an extremely good guitar player and an overall nice guy GREAT JOB JOHN and thank you, for a real good time

Perfect mediocre response 😢
The voicing and phrasing is masterfully done. Everyone saying “extremely thinkable pentatonic” is delusional. Santana made a legacy out of the same thing and this video proved Mayer is right where he should be… playing with the dead.

@@mrnk7911 Mayer admitted he went through a period where his ego was out of control (aka banging everything in sight). He has matured, concentrates on a healthy mind and spirit (He quit drinking), and is very private with regard to his personal life. He is in more control of his life while also knowing he can have or do anything he wants. The way it should be, in my opinion...especially for a musician at the talent level where he is.

If you played any musical instruments you would know how wrong you are. "The key of one chord" what? Not sure what you're hearing but there's more than one chord playing. Also when a group of chords are playing it still obeys a general key. The key doesn't change all of a sudden based on what chord you're playing. Pick up an instrument. Learn some music even if its just at the edge of your bed. You'd be glad you did. Once you have picked up an instrument you'd see the ridiculousness in what you've just stated lol. Also fyi the key is in E/C#m. Which means that the key is in Major but every major key has a corresponding minor scale in it which would be C#minor. That's the scale John is playing primarily here, the C#m pentatonic scale. At the start of this "shorts clip" you can clearly hear an E major chord playing and then a change to C#minor and Bmajor and then Amajor then basically just a shuffle of these chords with some other chords that i probably have to pick up a guitar to find out what they are. But i can literally hear these chords. I've been playing guitar for 11 years. I can hear an Emajor from a mile away.
Bass player gets it ❤
