Funny seeing him play Althea. Sings it just like he does now. Really neat seeing a performance from this era, years before he would go on to meet Bob Weir. Pretty cool stuff.

I just found out myself a few days ago but John was born 30 years to the day after Bob Weir: John Oct 16th 1977 and Bob Oct 16th 1947.

sweetsweethickory Yes, but someone else asked what "the first song was called" He ended up playing a full Althea the next night, it's also on youtube. I wouldn't call that a tease..A tease is something that you play in and out of... He started playing Sugaree and laughed at his own voice, decided to not do it, then played a little bit of althee, gave up on that too... then he came out the next night and did an AMAZING rendition of Althea. JM is really improving his thing. The jam scene could really use a guy like him that's always had the skill on the axe but can also project VOCALS out there.. so many jam bands are just lacking in vocals. Trey's been doing alright, but I cannot think of many other bands where the vocals are even audible, much less as deep-rooted in literature and as pronounced as GD songs were. Even if jerry or bobby screwed up lyrics, at least you could eventually learn them. I see bands now like umphrey's, SCI, etc... can't understand what they're even singing about. some good grooves, but what happened to the vocalist?
