I haven't thought about madden for 10 yrs, never watched a game for the announcers,
I remember in '92, the Cowboys beat the Lions, the game was over at halftime. Madden started just riffing on whatever came on the screen, and it was hilarious.
What a magical season 1985 was for the Bears. I was 19 then and we watched all those games at my friend Brian's house, his parents didn't mind if we drank. It was extra special when Madden and Summerall were the announcers, and that happened quite a bit that season because they were the #1 announcer team for the network and were always assigned to the best game, and the Bears were popular. I lost touch with Brian after I graduated from college, he died tragically 15 years ago on this very day I did get word in time to make his funeral, RIP Brian. Also RIP John Madden. Now I'm 55 wondering where all the time goes...

Greatest combo of broadcasters in NFL in my opinion! This is great clip of them together ❤️ R.I.P. John tell Pat we miss him too.
I grew up listening to Madden! Miss his voice! And playing madden 95!!lol
I remember Madden's famous 'chalkboard' overlays 'explaining' a play or what happened; pretty soon the entire screen was filled with nothing but lines lol. Also his famous 'horsecollar' comment.

So do I. Now days(2017) they'd try and sue the referee, stage a protest, get the Fed Gov't involved and change the Constitution to get a ruling reversed. Gone are the days of playing sports for fun and love of the game. Avarice has ruined football. I hate today's NFL, so much so that I haven't watched a game since 2013.
I spotted a couple of Bill Swerski's Superfans in the crowd at the 1:18 mark. Da Bears!

Yes, that is a great looking uniform on these Rams! Not sure what the hell the Rams are thinking these days with that awful color scheme. Same for a lot of other teams, i.e., Cleveland, Seattle, and New England. The Pats had a very good looking uniform with the "Pat Patriot" on their helmet, and somehow managed to screw it up by replacing it with that Elvis-looking thing. Cleveland's uniform now looks like dog shit...........

Under the Lights Madden's a great story teller & in football his whole life, so has unlimited stories. He faced Payton nearly 10 years earlier & was a fan from Day 1, he liked to watch really good line play & he knew the city of Chicago was starving for a champion, so '85 Bears gave him a lot of material.
RIP Coach Madden and thank you for your unparalleled contribution to football. I could watch older clips like this one all day; the joy of hearing Coach Madden’s voice and humor, along with watching some of football’s greats like Ditka, Walter Payton, Hannah just to name a few.
Can't wait to grab a Miller Lite and fall down some Madden analysis rabbit holes. RIP John.
Pat Summeral every time he chimes in fuckin' hilarious

You missed something earlier in the first half. A pass from Dieter Brock to Bobby Duckworth that just floated through the air because of the high winds. Summerall said a pass to Duckworth. Madden chimed in by saying that looked more like a duck to Passworth. He was in rare form this day.

Thanks for posting this, I'm from England and watched games gowing up. We didn't see many, only one game of 30 minute highlights every week and a look at the scores in other games. It was all pretty magical to me. At the time it always felt special when they were commentating. Looking back even now I realise how lucky I was to be able to listen to those guys covering games.
LOAD UP MY LOAD AND UNLOAD MY LOAD BEFORE YOU UNLOAD YOUR LOAD ON MY LOAD !
"You gotta have a bigger load..." That about sums it up, lol
You absolute legend, you’ll be missed.
Two things make me so nostalgic about foot ball , second is John and Pat's commentating, first The Musical score played with the weekly highlights on Sunday morning.
