I'm in the US, 62 years old. I didn't even know who John Farnham was until a few weeks ago. While I was strolling the the LRB videos here I found one that I hadn't heard before "The Other Guy". I had never remembered hearing or seeing the front man. So, I started searching. Now I can't stop listening to the songs that he has sung. I wake up with the songs playing in my head, and go to sleep reluctantly because I have to stop listening. I don't understand why John never made it bigger here in the US. There are so many reasons for someone, or a group not to. But I feel that we are "less" because his voice is not one of our "background" voices. TG for KZread, or I would never have found this music.

John is 70 now, and I heard him sing all his hits recently in Darwin. He never missed a note. He sang them just like he always did them, pitch perfect. John Farnham is the least recognised and most underappreciated vocalist in the world. Not in Australia, we love him here. But throughout the world, he's mostly unheard of. Shame really. He is one of the best vocalists ever.

@crustydownunder

@@damiencerutti6269 I might have agreed back in the 70s, but Farnham, to me, seemed to just get better and better as he got older. The concert I went to in Darwin, where John did all his hits, also featured Darryl earlier in the night. Darryl had lost it. He couldn't reach the high note anymore, and, to be honest, it wasn't a good performance, very sad to see. I didn't appreciate John Farnham until about the nineties. And I can now truly appreciate just what a pronominal vocalist he was. I was a pretty fair vocalist myself - now in my 60s. But yes, back in the day, Braithwaite was pretty good.

Wow, when John Farnham nails a song, he nails it. This song is awesome. Reading the lyrics, I wasn't thinking about romance though. I was thinking more about the attitude of this song. It makes me think we should all strive to live in a world without corruption in government. We start by removing corruption from ourselves. Hard? Yes, but what isn't hard? If life was easy it wouldn't be special. I believe we can do it and a positive attitude despite adversity is important. This song reminds you that there is an awesome aspect to life that we can all experience and that's what we should be striving for. Anything less is a let down to yourself and anything you value in life.

I think the song is probably intentionally political, but to release it with a video as a political message would have been career suicide, and so the Visuals were intentionally twisted to show a ‘romance’ so as to not show favour to any side of politics?

I don't know what you want from me Or what you think a love ought to be I want something that's open and strong As the country this road's moving on From the mountain to the valley From the ocean to the alley From the highway to the river One emotion to deliver One heart, one way, one love To share but not to chain That's freedom It's a song of the heart A race in the wind A light in the dark That's freedom It's a reason to live And after the rain Rekindle the spark Let freedom ring I don't know why it takes so long To remember What the world's doin' wrong Never wanted to shove my plan or another Who can't understand All I want is a fast lane To where the road across this plain Won't take you I want something you understand To make us stand proud As nothing else can That's freedom It's a song of the heart A race in the wind A light in the dark That's freedom It's a reason to live And after the rain Rekindle the spark Let freedom ring It's a measure of trust When love is alive It's tender and tough That's freedom It's all love is about This opening up and letting out Let freedom ring From the mountain to the valley From the ocean to the alley From the highway to the river One emotion to deliver One heart, one way, one love To share but not to chain That's freedom It's a song of the heart A race in the wind A light in the dark That's freedom It's a reason to live And after the rain Rekindle the spark Let freedom ring It's a measure of trust When love is alive It's tender and tough That's freedom It's all love is about This opening up and letting out Let freedom ring

Song from my youth. Great voice. Powersong. Greetings from Holland.
Yesterday 12/02/22 I heard this song play at the Freedom March in Canberra. It was Australia's largest ever protest and I was right near the speakers to hear it for the first time. It's a great song but John Farnham has to open his mind

A true Australian music icon 👌🏻
I watched this video at least 15 times now just to see the joy on their faces while performing this song
Watching this video of John farnham singing Thats freedom brings me back to awesome memories of his music and concerts i attended. I was very emotional to learn about his serious health issues and cancer surgery, I wish John farnham and family my very best wishes and love hope you are well again soon John. ❤
This song touches me a lot, then and now, John Farnham, one of the best!!! 👍👍👍
I will see this man in concert again and again. Love him! Still headlining music fests five decades in ... A true artist!!!
Epic Timeless Classic! Makes your heart jump. Love from Papua New Guinea!
Can't stop listening to this. Miss my family!!
This song was used in the 2002 "Visit NSW' tourism TV commercials.
For me, watching all JF videos, this is the time in his life when he was at the top of his game, his voice and physical appearance was 100%. I've not attended any of his shows but from watching videos I can see a happy and energized connection between him and the band. Thank you for sharing these videos. I love watching it. 👍💯❤
my mum used to sing with john farnham and jimmy barnes she was a back up singer and she went to the same high school as them they are great blokes

love john farnham his voice gives me goosebumps

Oh the good old days. Johnny you legend!
My absolute favourite song from John Farnham. I heard this in the 90's but feel certain he wrote it for me to appreciate 30 years later.
Just awesome music that never fades ❤️🇦🇺 A great singer and a great man
one of the best songs ever. john farnham, du bist einer der besten musiker überhaupt
