Jim and John are great friends... when you think that for most of their careers they have basically been in competition with each other in the same industry... but they've always supported each other, helped out with vocals/instrumentation on each other's albums over the years... I guess due to Australia being so remote and not having a very large population (still !).. our music industry tends to be quite a tight knit community.... especially between the artists from this era....you'll hear John and others all over each others work... they perform at a lot of the same shows etc... I think it's awesome and that we've been very spoilt having this calibre of performers in our back yard for so long... Thank you for showcasing our favourites !

Jimmy said that he thought this was one of his worst performances. He was running VERY late, you can see John looking around for him, he rushed on stage and he didn't have time to warm his voice up. Still think he did pretty well. John of course was perfect as usual.

I love how respectful John is, standing back when Jimmy sings and joining in but away from his mic so he doesn't steal Jimmy's thunder. Just so generous and beautiful. Youve gotta see these two do When Something is Wrong with my Baby on a tv show called Hey Hey its Saturday. They giggle all throughout the song - you can see the pure joy both of them have for just singing and sharing the stage.

Love your comments. This song was written by Cold Chisel’s drummer, Steve Prestwich who died in 2011 from a brain tumour. Recently Don Walker the Cold Chisel’s keyboard player and main song writer and leader, was ask about the story behind When the War is Over, and he said, “a personal life song and that’s probably where I’d leave it.” ❤ I much prefer the Cold Chisel version - When the War is Over Live 2003 Ringside. Ian Moss is the main singer with Jimmy mostly backing. They sing with passion I am sure they would know the story behind the song especially Ian. When you listen to it have the words in front of you. Yes John and Jimmy are very much good mates. Originally they were both in awe of each other and where nervous about singing together until they recorded When Something is Wrong with your Baby and they've been great mates ever since. They often dropped in on each other's concerts if they where in the same place at the same time and did little cameos. Sadly not too many were recorded tho. Even John's kids along with Jimmy's kids sing in one of Jimmy's songs. John and Jimmy's voices go so well together that it's such a shame they didn't collaborate more often. In The Midnight Hour is another one where Jimmy got John on stage this time. m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/pY6r0a6wfrS5hdo.html Steve Prestwich from Cold Chisel wrote the song and when Cold Chisel broke up the first time he joined John Farnham in the Little River Band ..and they also recorded rhe song together. Which is how John got access to the song. So there a few recordings from Cold Chisel, LRB, John Farnham and Ian Moss who all do this great song justice.

I interpreted the song as being, Him still in the War and being at the end of mission and looking forward to going home soon without being blown up or killed. Also, there is an excellent version of Farnham singing this song (When the War is Over; The last time). John really gets up into the higher register and as always, nails it.

With John Farnham singing When The War Is Over is probably considered half a cover or something along those lines. Because when Cold Chisel originally broke up in 1984 drummer and this songs songwriter Steve Prestwich straight away joined the Little River Band while John Farnham was the lead singer , Steve Prestwich didn’t have any songs on offer and LRB was struggling financially only songwriters got paid so Steve offered When The War Is Over up for reimagining version with LRB , the song appears on the underrated No Reins album . Steve Prestwich left LRB a few months before John did in 1986 after LRB’s recording contract was finally finished. Steve Prestwich went on to underrated solo career and joined former Cold Chisel band mate Ian Moss band on his first solo album and tour in 1989 . John was already working on the hugely successful solo comeback Whispering Jack featuring the hit You’re The Voice . LRB former recording company Capital records released When The War Is Over as single to capitalise on John’s solo success in the end of 1986 . Sadly it flopped. John Farnham was talked into recording it again in 1988 requested by his recording company BMG that version appears as B side to John’s hit single Age Of Reason it’s also a bonus song on CD version of the album Age Of Reason with John’s cover of AC/DC It’s A Long Way To The Top . John Farnham recorded 3 albums with LRB The Net , 1983 Playing To Win , 1985 No Reins , 1986 Steve Prestwich played drums on 2 albums for LRB Playing To Win & No Reins

Back then media tried to play them off as enemies that's how they started singing together to shut the media up as didn't matter how many time they said their mates media tried to say they're enemies Both Jimmy and john where apprentices one plumber other sparky or known as electrician before becoming famous Jimmy from poor area in my home town of Adelaide This is part of their success is they relate to the audience's and how hard they work for a living John acknowledged this in a interview how he cannot believe people on low incomes struggling to survive will pay to watch him sing and that's why they always tried to make ticket's affordable sometimes they actually lost money 💵 that's why they dropped the orchestra to keep, ticket's cheap enough for the average person they could've charged more and kept orchestra and st sold out but wanted it so everyone could buy a ticket his manager was the one Glen wheaten Rip said they had actually lost money on some of them John lost Glen unexpectedly just before Oliver died and weeks bef John found out he had cancer and rushed into hospital Glen will be a hughe lose for John as they where close mates by all accounts their families hung out together and even hooked everything including their home as did John and his wife to get John career reignited and that's when he became famous

In my opinion this song is about PTSD and someone finding difficulty in coming home to a 'normal' world after a 'war' and not being able to fit back into the society that he/she remembered before the 'war' - don't think they are necessarily coming home to a partner - could be a family member or old friend and the 'war' could be a real war or as PTSD refers to any traumatic event it could be any overwhelming event like prison, bereavement, illness etc .
