Thanks for your lesson ! I'm french, I'm 14 years old and the banjo is my favorite instrument. But, in my country, nobody knows this song. Here, the people dont like the Banjo. This instrument is rare in my Country. The people like the french singer :D It's normal. I want a banjo, I love banjo, I love Country and Bluegrass ! I love your country. He's fabulous

Hi. Nowadays you dont have to listen to country or bluegrass to hear a banjo being played. You can hear banjo licks in Indie folk , Indie rock and folk rock bands. Heard of American Authors, Strumbellas, Mumford and Sons etc? You can check my fb page facebook.com/indiefolknation for samples of these artists.

This video popped up in my random YT feed yesterday. I picked up the guitar back in 1978 when JD was big and I loved that music. I've spend that time since, learning all my favorites. At one point I became stagnant because all the best stuff was finger picking and didn't think I could do it, but slowly over the years I played with it more and more. Several years later, I bought a banjo with the intention of learning picking but found I was having a hard time because I couldn't remedy the differences in my mind between guitar and banjo, so I sold it. About 15 years ago I decided I was going to commit myself to learn those favorite finger picking songs and bought a high end Taylor guitar, with the thought that, if I'm going to spend that kind on money on a guitar, I better make it worth it. And I have. Can't believe how far I've come. Seeing this video has made me think I could give the banjo another try. All I've watched over the last few days are banjo videos. I'm thinking, I'm so far ahead of the curve from where I was almost 30 years ago with that first banjo, this stuff looks easy now. LOL Wish we'd had YT 30 years ago. So I'm shopping for a banjo. Thanks for all you do and for re-igniting an old flame.

I've watched you play this song many times and never get tired listening, fantastic . I'm in my 80s and always loved the Banjo. Lately I've been thinking of getting one, and maybe get a few lessons. Years back I took classical guitar lessons, but life got in the way. I recently tried to pick it up again, but because I was experiencing pain in my left hand thumb I had to stop. The classical guitar has a wider neck and the left thumb has to be placed in a certain position . The Banjo neck is much narrower than a classical guitar neck and probably is easier on the left thumb. Thank you for your excellent video.

Great job I lived in Maryland for over 25 years ironically right off of route 117 or Clopper Road which was the road that inspired John Denver to write the song as in the early 70s he was doing a radio show in the DC area and crashing on a freinds couch in West Virginia that road was the one he used to commute on it still is a pretty rural road but a lot of development has taken place over the years it was a big farm area years ago

This is my favorite song ever of all-time. John Denver's signature song is a must for any rodeo tie-down roper and also, a rodeo single steer roper, as well, too, as this song makes me think of calf roping and single steer roping, as that's why I love John Denver so much. I bet John Denver would've loved to be in the rodeo competing in tie-down calf roping and single steer roping, as well, too.

Thanks for this video. Very interesting, because it us quite different than usual Bluegrass licks. It will be a valuable inspiration source for me, since I'm often playing on songs in different styles. And as far as I know, slow banjo picking, sometimes more difficult than fast, by the way, is also often more melodious. Many thanks again.
