Thanks for this!-Was cutting my lawn yesterday when suddenly, after releasing the Drive Bar and Pulling the lawn mower back then engaging again, I had No Drive at all and noticed the Cable you replaced in this Video was severely slacked. I ended up finishing my lawn by “Manual Labour” pushing it everywhere. Got the book out and troubleshooting says it could be the Belt, but I think I would have heard it break. After seeing your video, my J28 (Looks exactly like your J26 model) Iam hopeful it’s just that Cable!…. Thanks for this, It certainly gives me the confidence my Buddy and I can probably fix it ourselves, even if it is the Belt. Apprecite your showing how to attack this.😊

In addition, The Motor on my J28 says in the Book, it’s a Briggs & Stratton Engine 7.25HP. Thats why the Cable you got was from Briggs & Stratton.

Briggs makes that deck. They are also sold as brute (black and yellow), and snapper (red)

Either Briggs or maybe Murray (Briggs bought certain Murray assets after Murray went kaput) but Deere's walk behinds subbed out; ie, definitely not made in Moline. You are right about Brute & Snapper, the latter also bought by Briggs which, surprisingly, is now in bankruptcy. Deere abandoned the walk behind business in about 2011. It's offerings were expensive; ie, Deere hoped people would pay a lot of "green" for that color green. I have a curb picked JS46. Decent enough mower but I would not have bought it new vs. a Toro or Honda.

the rear wheel drive is no to bad to work on got a free toro 20066 just did the belt on it ..but it has lots of bolts holding the covers on ,,takes more time

They manufacturerd 3 diff mowers all same trans setup DJ merry and snapper I believe

use the correct belt and install it correctly.

The under side of that mower need,s a good cleaning but it is up to you to do it or not if you do clean it I would have to change the the customer for doing this mower a great cleaning job

How do I know if the cable is bad? My wheels are locked up completely. They will not turn when off or running and engaged. It doesn't look to me as if the cable is engaging. also, the handle for the Neutrel lock is gone. I don't remember it being there. I got this mower used. I have tools and am pretty handy. Any ideas?

sometimes things have to be a POS so you can fix them and make some money!!!!

Nice job. That handle is an awful design and a total cluster f**k. They were trying to copy Toro’s personal Pace system but the handle is too bulky and it falls apart. The rear wheel drive version is even worse and the cables ain’t cheap either.
