John Deere H - From Iowa to Utah in a Pick-up truck
The story of our 1940 John Deere H and how we picked it up in Northern Iowa, loaded it into the back of our pick-up truck, and drove back to Northern Utah. Also the first start after rebuilding the engine.

I never would have thought that an H would fit in a pickup…but now I know it will!!! Nice video. Thanks for sharing it with us.

It's kinda surprising how small an H is. It was a tight fit... But it worked great. Much easier than pulling a trailer back and forth across the country!
Keeping tractor history alive! You guys need a JD sponsorship. 😎

Out here in the mountain west I didn't see a lot of model H's. But back in the corn belt they seem to be more common.
I found my H in Billings from a guy that hauled from California when he moved. Super fun little tractor!

The next tractor we get will be an H JD. My wife wants one bad.

WHERE have you been hiding this little jewel for 3 years?! Awesome to haul it in the back of a truck, never would’ve thought. I always wanted a H when I was back in MN but they were kinda rare and pricey. So 37 years later, I bought one in ID and had it shipped to alaska. A fun little tractor! PS. WHO has a flip phone, even 3 years ago.! Excellent video

Your right, they are kinda rare. We don't use the H for much other than parade driving or moving wagons or other equipment around the yard... It's just too small. But it is fun and easy to drive. And until about two years ago my parents used a flip phone. 😂
Nice little John Deere.

I would not have guessed an H would fit in a long box pick up. Good job on a very cool little tractor!

Yes, it's surprising it fit.
Wow, that looks like my grandfathers old John Deere that we used on our farm here is S.E. Iowa. Amazing if that used to be his, but I think it was a 1941 B which was a bigger machine

We picked this up near Spencer. That would be cool if we were able to find the original owner!
Looks like you had it on an IV!

Ha! Sure does.
How did you tie the tractor down in the truck bed?
@jonelsonster
Жыл бұрын
Straps onto solid anchors in the bed floor. It rode very smoothly in the truck. Less movement than on a trailer.
Did you have any trouble getting the head gasket to seal when reassembling? Did you use a head gasket sealer? I'm struggling with my rebuild.
@jonelsonster

No. We had no issues. But our machinist decked the head and the block mating surfaces. We did not use any sealers. Just the proper torque to the head bolts.

@@jonelsonster I found out that threads were stretched on one head bolt, causing uneven torque and leakage at the head gasket.
