Great job Daniel. I appreciate your being concise and to the point! Just enough information and not a lot of elaboration.

My H has about .021 end play. I’ve tried and tried and can’t seem to get it tighter. Do you think this will harm the tractor, based on your experience?

That will probably be OK as long as it doesn't get worse.

One item worth mentioning is, the transmission in gear, or in neutral? I know that sounds like a common sense question, but might be worth mentioning. Your videos are A+

It doesn't matter if the transmission is in gear or not. The shifter mechanism is completely divorced from the clutch/pulley mechanism.

If you have to much play will it make a whining sound? My 1940 A whines when the clutch is in gauges and the tractor is moving. Maybe it just whines because it’s old. Idk it sounds like it’s coming from the clutch or at least that side of the tractor. Thank you for the videos

Sounds like the pulley bearing. I hear it doesn't get oil well. When you install them you pack it with grease. Check out my pulley video from my John Deere B and it might give some additional perspective.

The whine you hear is likely the straight cut gears in the first reduction cover. Also on crank end play I had an ole timer tell me to set with clutch disengaged. He said use a new clutch facing on the inside cause that is what you are adjusting for. Said he had a facing break once and double up on itself, couldn't stop the tractor. Now this could be completely wrong but it makes sense to me.

@@garrettvillwok3693 setting it engaged and partially pulled back is explicitly how it is called out in the manuals. If not, you will end up with too much end play. The actual clutch adjustment and the pressure within that system is its own adjustment separate from crankshaft end play.

I just got a 620. It's one major project! Subbed! How you like your 620?

I don't have a 620. Not yet at least. Just an A, B, and G. I hope to move out of the letter series at some point.
