Pulled "out of the back door"!I love how those JD two cylinder diesels, even under full load, never sound stressed.The 80, 820 & 830 are my favourite JD Two Cylinder tractors.

Love those big old JD standard tread tractors! JD had finally sorted out all the reliability problems with the two cylinder diesels by the time they got to the 720 & the 820 JD two cylinder diesels are "Johnny Thumpers" rather than "Johnny Poppers"!

I had a very early 70D that was virtually trouble free. The R was and still is a very hard lugging tractor for the HP it had. Deere figured out the correct combustion chamber design to make power and be miserly on fuel. Some don't agree but it is true as the fuel economy record set by a 720 at Nebraska Tractor Tests stood until 1984. It took a Yanmar to beat it and it had no where near the power. They were not exactly smooth, but they did a lot of work on a gallon of fuel.
