John Deere 455 Blowing Deep Snow. 47 Inch Two Stage With X Series Mount.

Ойын-сауық

I needed to get something out of my machine shed the other day, and needed to clear out the snow in front of it.

I just bought the blower attachment for my 455. Can't wait to use it this year. If she smokes she pokes folks.

Kickass video! I just bought a 455 today, haven't gotten it yet but looking forward to it! I bought a jd 1070 backhoe front loader tractor this past fall, LOVE THE THING!!!!!!

Pretty impressive snow mover. Wish at times I'd kept the 47 blower for my x485 or better yet, the 455. The X485 is hard on fuel, whereas the 3 cyl diesel is smoother and more efficient. Thanks for the video.

I haven't had any problems. It starts better than any gas mower Ive ever had! It does seem to help if you put the throttle ahead a little when its really cold out, and make sure to let the glow plugs cycle all the way.

It's a diesel,. Diesels smoke when you load them down! Cool tractor. I have the 425 version of this tractor and love the thing. Tough as nails and like old JD stuff, DEPENDABLE!!!

We put a small td25 turbo off an early kubota turbodiesel on a 455. no muffler since it takes up the space. no extra fuel either its just there to clean up the smoke by providing 8 to 10 psi under heavy load.

Black smoke is normal kinda. It means the fuel isn't burning completely. Could be air mixture mine smokes when under heavy load. Could use an adjustment. Great video though.

I have a 455 and even when lugging down I can’t get it to smoke like that. Just a little smoke. I think the air cleaners (both) need replacing. They get plugged but look fairly clean.

She's working hard. Those diesels can make a lot of torque with a load on them. Any idea how much fuel did you burned? Even a little bit of diesel fuel can make really thick smoke so I would imagine you didn't burn a whole lot. Probably used less fuel than a gas tractor would.

I'm not sure, but it just sips the fuel. It uses about half what my gas mower uses for mowing lawn.

I have a 332 diesel and it uses 1/2 as much fuel as the 318 and has the same amount of power and it rolls coal with a load or just idling

  • @gardentractors1751

It shouldn't be smoking while just idling if it is it means you have either a bad injector or injector pump or perhaps its low on compression.

The Onan may make a tiny bit more power than a 332 stock but its not noticeable in fact in most cases the better power band of the 332 makes it a nicer machine to operate not to mention it burns half the amount of fuel of both the 318 and 322. Plus with the 332 you can add a lot more power really easily (like turbocharging or some injector pump adjustments) and then the diesel will out do the Onan easily and still last way longer and use less fuel. And the 322 makes just as much power as the 318 and burns a similar amount of fuel to the 318 plus the 322 is quieter and will last 3 times as long as a Onan in a 318.

Something must have been wrong with you 430 because I have never ever heard of someone saying a 430 felt short on power unless something was wrong with it and I have been in this hobby a while. I have directly compared my 332 to my 318 and the 332 wins every time IMO. The 332 sounds way better under load burns less fuel and it has a better power-band its harder to stall than the 318 because it makes its power at a lower RPM than the 318's do. The 332 has relatively flat torque curve as do most Yanmars. So while it may not feel as peppy as the Onan you'll be able to work it harder than the Onan without stalling the engine. As far as turbos I CARE in fact I have two 332 and one of them is being built into a 430 killer. As in its getting the 430's differential and a turbo and around 10-15 PSI of boost and water injection to keep the EGT's down and maybe some cam and head work down the road. It will also be getting H3 hydraulics just like the 430. You may ask why more HP thats because I will be pulling at least a double bottom plow with it, and a 50" mechanical tiller and maybe a 60" finishing mower not to mention using it for loader work possibly. Trust me the attachments are not the limit the 332 can run implements designed for SCUT's and CUT's. Like a 60" power broom, 50" snowblower, 60" front snow blade. Plus I'm doing it for fun and to give the new heavy GT's and SCUT's a run for their money.

Why so much smoke? Heavy load or a bad filter?

It being under so much load is why it's smoking.

The engine smokes when lugged. Keep the RPMs in the recommended operating range for the blower by going slower and it won't smoke.

Meh, I guess calling it "deep snow" is a bit relative. I agree, I would not really call this "deep snow", but I would call it a "significant snowfall" .. it would be enough for a weather network to post a snowfall advisory... Maybe not enough for a heavy snowfall warning. In any case, its a decent amount of snow and the 455 is great tractor.
