Over the years, as I have grown older, I have come to understand and appreciate John's feelings and his reasons much more. And right now, what I perceive is a much greater sensitivity and maturity than the rest, to the point where he has become more and more my favourite member of Queen, above even Freddie.

The other band mates always said that John was by far the most grounded and practical-minded one. I think part of John “maturity” in comparison to the others, despite being the youngest, was because John lost his father so very young. (He was only 11 years old when his dad died very unexpectedly at the age of 42 or so). Of course part of it is his own personality- John had the business/financial mindset and a very sharp intellect in his own way.
