John Daly: Snubbing from the Ryder Cup, playing with a teenage Tiger Woods, and Hall of Fame chances

Спорт

On this week's episode of Subpar, two-time Major Champion John Daly joins former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost and his close friend and on course rival Drew Stoltz for an exclusive interview. John lets Colt and Drew know what it was like playing with a 13-year-old Tiger Woods, why he thinks he never was picked for America's Ryder Cup team, and if he thinks he will make the Hall of Fame one day.

Great show guys👍 I have a JD story.... We hosted a pro am at St. George’s for the Canadian open. JD had burst on the scene winning the PGA. Richard Zokol has just won the week before (Canadian boy). The line up also had Craig Stadler, Bruce Lietzke, Tom Purtzer, Curtis Strange, Fred Couples and Greg Norman. JD was the crowd favourite. Hit 3 irons over the range. Hit putter 210 at the 3rd hole, middle of the green. Hit LW 155 at the 6th to 3 feet. Etc etc. The best was on 18. After a great drive he hit his approach within 15 feet. He was surrounded by people. He noticed a boy sitting by the right side bunkers. He had 2 prosthetic legs. JD walked over, picked him up and carried him to the green, surrounded by a few thousand people. JD has his demons as we all do. I know he earned a lot of respect that day. Forever his fan 🇨🇦

Yup 👍. He almost hit it in the left bunkers on #7 off the tee as well. With today’s golf ball, driver and 110 mph club head speed, I’ve never sniffed that drive .

I was very fortunate to have seen John in his 2004 prime at Spyglss Hill on a practice round for the little-known Pebble Beach Invitational tournament. I saw him play the seventh hole at Spyglass, a 530-yard par 5. He was playing Titleist equipment in a Hippo golf bag. The irons were Titleist 690CB and his driver was the 983K. After his huge fade tee shot, he had only 175 left! He played golf with us until the ninth hole and he was so cool with all of us. We departed and, lo and behold, a few days later he won the tournament. Look it up, guys.

When Rocca made that bomb in the British Open after chunking the chip, the putt looked good for 30 feet out. He was walking it in...lol. Not only that, but by making that putt Rocca almost seemed not to care about not winning. The golfing Gods had bailed him out, he knew it, and that was enough for him. Amazing all around from many angles.

You suck The interviewers were saying how great he was/is not only as a golfer but a person. I have simply aired what I think. I’m not questioning him as a good golfer. However a legend of golf that’s a bit to far. There are quite a few who would feature before him. I say disgrace as people who are are playing sport at the level he did have a certain responsibility. He wouldn’t be on my list of golfers who I would want my sons to aspire to.
