This is a brilliant recording of an really important and beautiful composition. It demonstrates how the most sophisticated and complex techniques can be used for communicative purposes.

I hear hints of Corigliano's ALTERED STATES (1980) soundtrack. Excellent performance.

WOW!!! this was a surprise didn't know Corigliano could be his abstract ! Fun , full of invention and when not humorous ,apocalyptic in a lighter way than the heavy going germans. Quite wonderful ! Will be returning to this again and again .i think my own clarinet concerto will likewise open with percussion but have an extended atonal cadenza its a fine idea ! Can't wait to see or order the score !!!

Does anyone else think the bass clarinet run at 3:02 (or somewhere around there) sounds like the bass clarinet lick from Rite of Spring?

I am a fan because of this piece, he played it with us in the Hartford Symphony in 1982. Fast forward to today, I played Prokofiev Overture on Hebrew Themes with him tonight, and he still sounds great at 90.
