George, thanks for the video, just subscribed from watching you on Michael 45, really pleased I came over. I admire your take on this record, as a piece of music and the UHQR. I admire your take on feeling humbled in front of something, I had a moment like that with Tubular Bells 2 when I was a teenager on an old sony amp and speakers with a crappy cd player hooked up. I’ve had it several times since. I’m 46 and got into analogue only in the last 6 years but quickly got sucked into audiophile pressings. I really want this UHQR even though I’m not greatly into jazz, I have the full belief my tastes will grow as I age and I want these incredible AAA cuts that I don’t think will be able to get later on in life either due to cost or the tapes being compromised. Great video.

Very beautiful description of this powerful piece of music. Yours is a powerful statement that what is most important about this album is the spirit within the music. That is, Coltrane truly giving himself to Allah Supreme. I'm fortunate to have a mono original of ALS. An album that both humbles and repairs the soul.

@@ghborden good question. Never heard the stereo. Had a chance to purchase a beautiful mono A77 before Covid when the prices were not so crazy. Only copy I have ever owned. Pure luck that I stumbled upon it. But I will say that the mono sounds natural, organic, balanced, detailed and …beautiful. ALS is the only Coltrane album I own other than Ascension (Well…I did get the Live in Seattle). IMO these three albums are the sound of an artist setting his soul free. No commercial concerns. No compromise. Appreciate your show. Thank you. Shawn.

As a man of faith, I can tell you that music inspired by God is the best music ever made. Coltrane is showing us "the way, the truth, and the life" through music. It's about redemption, struggle, and ultimate happiness through God's infinite love. Gospel music delivers the same message and soul satisfaction. I only wish John had lived long enough to see his masterpiece be deemed a classic, but only the good die young, and we're left to admire their achievements.

It's also known that dogs can tell the difference between a digitally cut album vs an analog cut one. The great thing about those dogs is they can walk themselves for their daily walk and pick up their own shit. They also eat out of solid gold dog bowls.

I have no God, I am not religious. Over decades (I am 70 and infinitely nearer to the end) I have collected thousands of albums covering many genres. This is a personal opinion but it is the only album I can describe as being ‘spiritual’ and perhaps on another level to all other albums. For non-jazz lovers this is not an album which is easy to listen to, it is extremely intricate. When you do appreciate it the reward is intense.
