Negative people aren't that bad if u are optimistic. It feels like you got one finger of theirs your holding on to so they don't fall off the cliff. My negative friends make some purpose for me I suppose. Obviously if they don't like you, you aren't helping them at all.

yea.. thats the one fatal flaw in lex that i think serves as the root of the majority of his other flaws. far be it from me to assert such an assumption but it just seems like a lot of thing he struggles with, parallel to much of our generation, stem from being overly optimistic due to, and heres the kicker, social media/echo chambers/dogmatic prominent figures. real life is a lot less certain than what you can expect in the news or your morning social media feed whether or not you view those things as positive or not. 'most people are good' i believe comes from a lot of surface level information about a lot of people rather than a lot of deep information about a few people. the vast majority of people would hold a door for you but very few people would take a bullet for you. that deep comorodary lex likes to allude to is, i wouldnt say optimistic necessarily, but very shortsighted of him and i think he knows it. he just isnt ready to accept it. i doubt a sizeable fraction of people in his life have really let him down or lead him on for their own personal benefit, likey because most people assume smart people are privy to such behavior. certainly one could argue the contrary. and its not really an argument because both philosophies are, in my opinion, inherently flawed. being overy pessimistic can easily lead to resentment and eventually shutting everyone out entirely while too much optimism puts too many eggs in the basket of chance and luck. hard to know which is worse for oneself and the greater good. i guess part of it depends on an individuals goals

I trained under John Clarke for a year. He is hands-down the most influential instructor I ever had. He teaches his students how to use Jiu-Jitsu to FIGHT; that is, he teaches a mindset and does not water it down. He rolls with his students every day and more than any other teacher I've had. Relatively few people know who he is but his instruction is world class. Great guy, great teacher.

he certainly tells it like it is. no bullshit. the bit about needing someone who compliments you and vice versa and not settling/knowing when to call it quits is something that is fatally ignored due to an, or so it seems, emphasis on expediency. people are way too concerned with being single (for any stretch of time) and especially for long periods of time because they fear the stigmas attributed to that. in reality, it doesnt matter and nobody cares. they may appear that way, but those people generally arent worth holding the door for anyway. good things take time and persistence. sadly, that is a dying ethos due to the constant need for instant gratification. lex's pipedream about a social media that doesnt rush things in general is just so fundamentally wrong and counter to the very thing social media is that i dont even think he believes its plausible. though his optimism may want to have a word with me regard my opinion on the. what we need is to slow down, digest and think. that goes for romantic relationships and just in general, not even limited to people. although it hasnt been that long, historically, every social media sells smaller and smaller instances of attention to sell ads to outpace its competitors. that metric alone makes the kind of thing lex wants tied to people jumping ship in such large numbers from the current giants that it would take a miracle to buck the pattern. moors law applies to more than just transistors. he of all people should know that. myspace->facebook->instagram->twitter->snapchat->tiktok-> (whatever is next and somehow more fractional and brainless than tiktok). i dont see it reversing until people just say fuck it all together and go back to the roller rink, park, club ect.

I went to high school with John. He was well respected in our school. I have a story that has always stuck with me. When your an underclassmen, the freshmen would suffer the ritual of wedges in the locker room by the juniors or seniors. One day, I was selected for the next round of wedgies. I am certainly no slouch and can hold my own but I'll never forget John stepped and said, not Dan guys. He's a cool guy , you leave him alone. I have shared that story over the years. I'm sure he won't remember that day, but I always have and I hope this finds him well. You're a class act John, Thank you.

Using someone you don't know, like you or Summer Rayne Oakes, to be Mentors and Role Models is a coping mechanism for me now. I feel blessed that I found you. I hate that I spend time on media when I have a farm to work on, so now I am carrying you in my ear while feeding my horses. When John takes a moment to explain to you what "shotgunning" a beer is, I think you were overly dismissive. I'm sure vodka serves a purpose for you and perhaps you don't need to hear about frat and North American traditions you think less of but you shut down a moment of excitement with John and a possible learning opportunity for deeper insight into his personal perspective. It wasn't super important but I saw that you didn't seem open at that moment to learn from your guest. Thought I would pass that along because it resonated with me. Great interview, great guest. I think for GenX there has been such a HUGE adjustment. A lot of what we found fulfilling, like real life, real personal relationships and experiencing the world as it, not living for people's approval. All these things are slowly dying. I tend to agree with Clarke and maybe it's generational or we just value similar things. I know my children experience life very differently than I did as a child, they are happy children and certainly have a relationship with technology that I will never have. But they have had a lonely childhood compared to mine but they don't know it, they don't know any different. That's may be the silver lining.
