One of my biggest influences. Strong original themes with haunting ambience (Danny Scipio, The Ipcress Files, The Girl With The Sun In Her Hair, Diamonds Are Forever, The Adventurer, Midnight Cowboy, etc.). Shame he became so drawn into the Hollywood miasma with later themes (anonymous washing strings with forgettable over-lapping harmonies - Frances, Out Of Africa, Dances With Wolves, etc.)

@@morganbryan8045 I really enjoyed John Barry's soundtracks from the 1960s and 1970s, there was lots of variety. However, by the 1980s, his compositions all tended towards the same sound.

@@practilectual I don't agree with that at all. The Living Daylights (1987) has the best soundtrack of all Bond films, given it would be Barry's final one for the 007 series it would be the perfect swan song. Dances With Wolves (1990) also has a wonderful and epic soundtrack.

I remember watching The Persuaders! when it was first broadcast on ABC in 1971. I was a lad of 12 at the time. I'd been a follower of Sir Roger Moore from the days of The Saint on the telly. I'd also seen much of Tony Curtis' early work. The idea for The Persuaders! had it's genesis from two episodes of The Saint (black and white and colour, more so the colour episode) which co-starred Stuart Damon. The idea of a television series paring a Briton and American, both well-to-do through different means, and with a compunction for righting wrongs, was at once novel and lasting. The popularity of the programme has continued to grow in syndication. R.I.P. Sir Roger and Mr. Curtis.

Totally agree on the ‘feel’ that this theme evokes in its own right, never mind the added nostalgia of its release-time commenters. The contrasts work well too: shorter, higher notes of the lead lines contrast with the later, wide, descant, bass swathes of synth of those early opening phrases. The minimal use of the percussion section also keeps the mix open and focussed on the guiding theme. Another element the producers must’ve wanted from this score was that it wasn’t a singalong like say, “Streets & Alleyways”; which would follow a year later, or be a big band or orchestra production like the earlier tunes from “The Avengers” or “The Prisoner”. Barry’s choice in this musical charm didn’t give any clue to what the series was about, it’s very abstract and hence not weighed down with the kitsch and flamboyance of the actor’s characters or indeed their own globally-known personalities. The velvet jackets, wide collars, flares and sports cars were very much the work of the casting director and costumers as indeed were the props of transatlantic old and new wealthy estates and sports cars.

As a rule I am a fan of and enjoy immensely anything by the brilliant John Barry. I have long loved this piece of music, his film scores and TV themes are part of my childhood and I spent many happy hours listening to them. What you have managed here is to lift this incredible theme to a higher level with your mix and given me, us, almost 6 minutes of superb music. Many thanks to you Mr. Davoli. Grazie mille. 🙏

@@practilectual I don't agree with that at all. The Living Daylights (1987) has the best soundtrack of all Bond films, given it would be Barry's final one for the 007 series it would be the perfect swan song. Dances With Wolves (1990) also has a wonderful and epic soundtrack.

Its time for a movie franchise been too long in development hell.
Loved this as a young child
Roger Moore, Tony Curtis, John Barry = Une série culte.

@@shaunboden .... because it's written in a minor key. There are basically three keys, two of them are minor. To me the piece has a tumultuous undercurrent overlaid with a soulful, yearning and sad melody. Maybe (?) the sadness of the passage of time...images of childhood.

I disagree - egos would have clashed and the end result (if indeed it got as far as producing something) would likely have been a compromise that neither would have been happy with. Would Da Vinci and Michelangelo working together have produced better art than the two did individually?

Questa colonna sonora mi ha destato sempre malinconia. Oggi più che mai che i protagonisti da me apprezzati non ci sono più. Il panorama di oggi non ha più attori e storie come quelle interpretate da loro due. Direi semplicemente due mostri sacri.

My favourite TV tune by a mile. The late John Barry genius! Takes me back to early 70s watching the Persuaders after the Big Match on Sunday afternoons with my late father.
Possibly the best theme song for a tv show that lasted way too short, the split screen wth their upbringing what a fabulous idea. Unforgettable!
This series is truly cult and a forerunner. When I was young in the '70s, I sat and watched this series. Even then unique in its kind by two great personalities in Tony Curtis and Roger Moore. The music is really finely crafted for this series and matches exactly the content. Phenomenally!! Greetings from Sweden!

These guys and others like them were very overlooked , themes like man in a suitcase , department S , joe 90 , the baron , Randall and Hopkirk and countless others take me back to a time when things were normal and you had no worries or stress , sadly these days in the world we live in are far gone , but we have sites like YT to take us back for a while :-)
