Apart from the section around 1 hour on Brexit etc. I can go along with most of what John Barnes says. However, I reject the suggestion that WE oldies created a pile of problems. As John Barnes says we know NOWT and had no say. Our WISE leaders did what they thought was right for themselves without asking us and then found themselves stuck with a large influx of people so they dumped the problem on us and tried to con us by lying about the benefits of mass immigration. Tony Blair (2004) said: have 500K vacancies, need immigrants to fill them. Blair knew when he said that that you can't get rid of vacancies by filling them with immigrants because immigrants don't only work they also consume and create new vacancies as fast as they fill the existing ones. That's why 7 million immigrants (net) in 20 years have made absolutely no difference to the number of vacancies as predicted by economic theory. That's fine if you have plenty of land and want to increase the size of your economy and power in the world. Unfortunately we don't have plenty of land and increasing the population doesn't benefit the existing population financially. And how does John Barnes know we couldn't run the NHS without foreign staff. We've never tried. And of course we knew that Brexit was a serious possibility. Opinion polls over a period of 10 years showed that 50% of the population wanted immigration reducing a lot and the polls before the referendum were predicting no more than a narrow victory for Remain. I am not a racist but a spacist. Fifty years ago I Iistened to the club of Rome and decided to have only 2 children so that my grandchildren would still have some space. When I saw the result of Labour lies and Tory silence (immigrants = cheap labour) with both claiming that cutting non-EU immigration would only cause more EU immigration I voted for Brexit to help take that excuse away. Finally if you try to eliminate deprivation in the immigrant ghettos you've created how do you expect the forgotten sink estates full of deprived native Brits to react?

Children don't show any race preference until a certain age, actually - the ones who ever do show one, that is. However, babies show a preference based on accent from the age of 5 months, so unlike race preference, accent preference is natural, not learned.

The usual patronising condescending nonsense about people being told what to believe by media. Most people’s views are actually formed by their own life experiences. Then they go out and buy newspapers that they already agree with.

The majority of people who move across the globe to enrich their own lives, tend to be conservative. "I earned this, I want to keep it". As such, the narrative against the EU was perfectly suited to many immigrant families to vote leave.

The problem with Barnes is that he is extremely bitter about his sacking from Celtic nearly 20 years ago. Rightly or wrongly it's increasingly coloured (excuse the pun) his outlook. Did he not go on to have a great managerial career because of racism? It's possible. But it's also possible that he just wasn't a very good manager. Alan Stubbs, Celtic player under him basically says he was a poor manager.

  • @davyprendergast82

may be but although modern football chairmen are trigger happy, the true test of a manager's record is having been given the time to build his own team, not only being given 6 months. He would never get that at a club like Celtic (or Rangers) though, when you are expected to be top all the time. He probably wouldn't be good manager; one suspects he might have done well at Tranmere otherwise; but he does make a good point that if you are black you rarely get another job, whereas there are a staggering number of average white managers who just keep getting re hired, the likes of Mark Hughes, Steve Bruce etc

Barnes talks some amount of bullshit, he says that people need to question what they have been conditioned to accept, his presumption that no one can think for themselves is patronizing. People get their opinions from real life experience more than through media.
