Fantastic review. I would love this book for two reasons: 1, I enjoy adding worthy additions to my small but growing magic book collection. I enjoy sitting back and just reading effects and methods and try to visualize how it would look in my hands. And besides, its so nice to have quality material that you can go back to at different points down the learning path. And 2, I love self working tricks. In my experience they fool my friends and family far harder than my sleight of hand tricks. Self working tricks are a great thing to interweave between other effects. Thanks again for the review. It was very well done

Thank you for the great book review! I enjoyed John Bannon's presentation on the Magician Forum Live! As a beginner to intermediate, I do enjoy self working effects, especially those that have the thought put behind them to hide that they don't look conspicuously mathematical and misdirect away from the automatic aspect of the effect.

I had to laugh when you said that when John explained that the deck had to be turned 180 degrees, you felt he meant your hand was to turn 180 degrees. That is so CPA of you. I loved it! As to why I would love this book...3 reasons. 1) It would complete my collection of his books, 2) It would give me some additional routines to consider performing, and 3) (the most important reason) I love studying John's thinking. As a mathematician, I love looking at his routines and really thinking and digging into the methods to really see what the structure of the routine is. I like comparing it to other works of his to see changes and also compare it to other magicians (especially somebody like Simon Aaronson, to explore similarities and differences. it's always a journey of exploration when reading books like these.

Thanks for the review and giveaway offer (which I'd like to enter). As a newbie to card magic, the info at ~2:00 quickly appealed to me: no-sleight, self-working card tricks are probably a good option for me, because I should be able to do them without needing a lot of practice to get specific techniques right first. I found it interesting that there's a bit less emphasis on the mathematical nature of such effects, and it's nice that there are some options to expand beyond using only cards. I also liked how you said that why certain moves (like forces and false shuffles) work is explained, because I generally enjoying knowing the why behind the how.

I would love to win a cooy of this book because i got started in magic late in life, and the self working material is good for me to help work on my performing chops, so i dont have to concentrate on the sleights so much.
