Rest In Peace John Abercrombie...
Abercrombie was and still is my favorite fusion guitar master. Thanx John for music and originally guitar playing.

I'm glad I read your comment. I feel this way too and it does my heart good to think somewhere someone else agrees.

Grant Johnson Abercrombie has been on the top of my list as well. I love this quartet so much!!!!
Farewell John Abercrombie. No words.
This is the first time I have seen this particular quartet of Abercrombie's so this is a very welcome upload-thank you!
what a gem, thank you!
I have never seen such beauty of playing matched with technical skills. John Abercrombie is timeless as Johan Sebastian Bach.
So great , pioneering show and music
Ho finito ora di ascoltarlo tutto....veramente bello. I just finished listening to it all while working...really beautiful. Thanks Mr Zorzi! John Abercrombie Quartet, VIP !
Absolutely love that concert….everyone of them, just heavenly 💛💛💛💛
Thanks very mucho for this extra-special music... upload, etc. Ever since I first heard him in the year 'whenever "Timeless" came out' I've been a huge fan. Saw him with Eddie Gomez, Jack DeJohnette and Lester Bowie in Austin many years ago. This is absolutely gratefully appreciated. Always MAny (Abercrombie Guitar) Blessings, -=S.
Ancora in forma e ispiratissimo il nostro John.Un genio assoluto del Jazz. Alla faccia di chi ritiene che questo genere musicale non abbia sufficiente melodia
this is another world ... where the music and the musicians are not in a hurry...
The first and only time I saw them was in Dübendorf, Switzerland, in exactly this line-up. I had never experienced Jazz like this before. Thanks for the upload!

I think this is one of the greatest concerts ever. The interplay is amazing, the inventiveness, humour, creativity exchanging of hints and quotes. And to hear a jazz violinist who loves Bartok, what a delight !
This is mesmerizingly beautiful
So magic ! thanks for the upload !
Very fresh, good improvised music
Sublime, lindo, maravilhoso... Adjetivos são poucos... Até o palco com as garrafas de vinho na frente é encantador. Menos é mais!
+Maurizio Zorzi - Thank you for sharing this great video. This particular instrumentation is interesting for me. With 3 stringed instruments and a drum kit there are a surprising wealth of sonorities. Great band, great players and improvisers... this suits me just fine. Really enjoyed it and definitely will be listening/watching more than once. Thanks again!
I was there!!! Great music, very nice gig with a lot of improvisations.
I love the partially scratchy sound of the violin.
He is always there
Grazie!! gran video
Vraiment très bien ! Excellent guitariste...
Ho finito ora di ascoltarlo tutto....veramente bello. I just finished listening to it all while working...really beautiful. Thanks Mr Zorzi!

Wow what agrou
2017 turns out to be a bad year for jazz guitarists 😢
Joey Baron is interesting
It's a shame the drums are not as well mic'ed as the rest of the instruments of the band..
Didn't know Bezos could drum! 😆
He's trying so hard to accommodate the violin
he ended the piece on purpose
Parla anche un po' di Italiano....forte!!!
Using the thumb instead of a pick does not give the punch that is sometimes needed.

Yes, there are some trade-offs. But he'd also never get quite _that_ tone out of a pick either. Personally, I like both approaches and would tend to switch techniques depending on the gig or tune.
wtf

+YU Radio Wien wtf in what sense?
saw this guy play tonight in new mexico. What I saw and heard was loosely organized and sleepy 65% of the time John Abercrombie didn't play guitar and stared at the ground. He looked tired and disheveled. The drummer was dragging and over-playing all night. Boo.

+mcigraff Yeah, I saw him once and it wasn't the best. This show is better, don't you think? I don't think he's the most consistent player in terms of quality. Was it Joey Baron on drums? I've noticed he's pretty hit and miss too. Probably the peak years for Abercrombie were the 80's. After that, only some stuff is good.

+Ester Samuels I saw him couple of years ago, his health did not seem so good, but he played really well, I was sort of surprised by it, he had nice stereo tone too, he did not seem in good health. Some of his stuff is too far out for me, I bought is songbook. lots of it is fun to play

SonicArchives Do you think his really far out stuff is "wrong" in terms of music theory?

No I think he is good, but here and on other tracks he has very abstract drummer, I really liked his songbook, I have mixed feelings about his records, but that's not to say they are bad. Here I can't tell what chord he is playing over, he has a handful of very good tunes like Blue Wolf, Timeless, Love Song etc..

I saw him at jazz showcase in Chicago, I was like in the front row, he noticed we were really listening and came over and said hello after 1st set. He was only player to ever do that. I would see him again if he comes back, kurt rosenwinkel was the best concert i seen at jazz showcase.
great drummer but the music in general - kinda boring
I think everyone can play the opening song.. but the problem is if not them.. is anyone watching???
