Johannesburg 4K - Driving Downtown - Mineral Rich

Sunday morning drive around downtown Johannesburg from my recent visit.
Johannesburg, informally known as Jozi, Joburg, or "The City of Gold", is the largest city in South Africa, classified as a megacity, and is one of the 100 largest urban areas in the world. According to Demographia, the Johannesburg-Pretoria urban area (combined because of strong transport links that make commuting feasible) is the 26th-largest in the world, with 14,167,000 inhabitants. It is the provincial capital and largest city of Gauteng, which is the wealthiest province in South Africa. Johannesburg is the seat of the Constitutional Court, the highest court in South Africa. Most of the major South African companies and banks have their head offices in Johannesburg. The city is located in the mineral-rich Witwatersrand range of hills and is the centre of large-scale gold and diamond trade. It was one of the host cities of the official tournament of the 2010 FIFA World Cup - and it hosted the final.
The city was established in 1886 following the discovery of gold on what had been a farm. Due to the extremely large gold deposit found along the Witwatersrand, within ten years, the population had grown to 100,000 inhabitants.
A separate city from the late 1970s until 1994, Soweto is now part of Johannesburg. Originally an acronym for "South-Western Townships", Soweto originated as a collection of settlements on the outskirts of Johannesburg, populated mostly by native African workers from the gold mining industry.
The metropolis is an alpha global city as listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. In 2019, the population of the city of Johannesburg was 5,635,127, making it the most populous city in South Africa. In the same year, the population of Johannesburg's urban agglomeration was put at 8,000,000. Land area of the municipal city (1,645 km2 or 635 sq mi) is large in comparison with those of other major cities, resulting in a moderate population density of 2,364 per square kilometre (6,120/sq mi).

It's official you're a big fan our city, which is a big compliment given the problems we have and all the negative things that has been written about our city , it's so good to see someone, who sees the pontential even more so if it's someone like you, who has seen almost the whole world, because of you i know almost all the US cities even though i have never been there and looking at JHB's skyline is exactly like those US cities, it's just we have lack in taking care of the city because of social problems we have in South Africa as a whole and also the government who has not done a good job, once again thank you, for seeing a glass half full instead of the other way round!!

I can tell that people who built this city were very serious, they didn't play. They built a huge, rigid, solid city. This city is unshakable. I watched the whole video. I saw a lot of positivity of this city. Dirt and renovations can be fixed so easily, because the foundations of these infrastructures are solid. Love joburg, no matter what.

South Africa has so much potential but they have to find a way to get people employed and out of poverty. No country can exist peacefully with as much inequality as they have and the people don’t deserve to suffer due to a lack of opportunities.

back in the days when everyone had a job of course, back before the 1990s. It's incredible how much poverty there is and unemployment in South Africa, more than anywhere else in the world. There were jobs before when the Rand was equal to the Dollar, but the problem was that it was also a very segregated place. Now everyone is free to go anywhere but the problem is they don't have the money!

The private sector left the old city for new cities that are being built around Johannesburg peripheries that is why most buildings lie abandoned and shops closed. It’s a sad reality. Hopefully the private sector comes back and invests in theold CBD in the near future.
