So long as such young people can integrate the spirit of Brahms (and Bach, Mozart, Beethoven...) and perform with splendid sensitivity, I know there is hope for the world. Mein Gott -- magnificent!

BRAHMS GERMAN REQUIEM TEXTS 1. They who sow in tears, shall reap in joy. Go forth and cry, bearing precious seed, and come with joy bearing their sheaves ----------------------------- 2. For all flesh is as grass, and the glory of man like flowers. The grass withers and the flower falls. Therefore be patient, dear brothers, for the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waits for the delicious fruits of the earth and is patient for it, until he receives the morning rain and evening rain. But the word of the Lord endures for eternity. The redeemed of the Lord will come again, and come to Zion with a shout; eternal joy shall be upon her head; They shall take joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing must depart ------------------------------------------------------------ 3. That I must have an end, And my life has a purpose, and I must accept this. Behold, my days are as a handbreadth before Thee, and my life is as nothing before Thee. Alas, as nothing are all men, but so sure the living. They are therefore like a shadow, and go about vainly in disquiet; they collect riches, and do not know who will receive them. Now, Lord, how can I console myself? My hope is in Thee. The righteous souls are in God's hand and no torment shall stir them ----------------------------------------------------- 4.Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen, Herr Zebaoth! Wohl denen, die in deinem Hause wohnen, die loben dich immerdar How lovely are thy dwelling places, O Lord of Hosts! My soul requires and yearns for the courts of the Lord; My body and soul rejoice in the living God. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house; they praise you forever ----------------------------------------------------------- 5. You now have sorrow; but I shall see you again and your heart shall rejoice and your joy no one shall take from you. Behold me: I have had for a little time toil and torment, and now have found great consolation. I will console you, as one is consoled by his mother ---------------------------------------------- 6. For we have here no continuing city, but we seek the future. Behold, I show you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we all shall be changed and suddenly, in a moment, at the sound of the last trombone. For the trombone shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Then shall be fulfilled The word that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is thy sting? O Hell, where is thy victory? Lord, Thou art worthy to receive all praise, honor, and glory, for Thou hast created all things, and through Thy will they have been and are created ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Selig sind die Toten, die in dem Herrn sterben, von nun an Ja der Geist spricht, daß sie ruhen von ihrer Arbeit; denn ihre Werke folgen ihnen nach Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth Yea, saith the spirit, that they rest from their labors, and their works shall follow them

What a marvelous performance! I've heard a number of different performances of this piece and tend to be attracted to the more intimate ones. I find it funny/charming, though, that we barely see the bariton soloist and yet we practically see Regula Muhlemann's pores, the close up is that intense. Moreover, the baritone isn't even listed though you can find his name elsewhere conntected with this performance. Anyway, if anyone knows who the orchestra is, I'd appreciate it.

The videography is very bad! The unusually close shot on Regina Muhlemann is an interesting concept, but the director and camera operators couldn't decide what to do with it, and the rest of the video is unimaginative and difficult to watch. So many out-of-focus, jerky shots and framing problems. Still, a great performance by the artists. Good sound recording too.

thank you mr. schellhase, I'm the sound-engineer of this recording. And I agree, very good perfomance, but a little bit spooky, cannot really find the baritone Rudolf Rosen...

Missing brass. Didn't Brahms score this for 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones and a tuba for the brass section? A good performance but it lacked depth in sound, especially in Part VI "Denn es wird die Posaune schallen". Let the music echo the words! The trumpet shall sound. 1 Corinthians 15:52 You have to have trumpets! It looked like 1 horn was the entire brass section in this performance. :-(

If you would have read the description, you could have saved your time to write all this... it is a chamber-version byJoachim Linckelmann - Carus Verlag. Best

CHAARTS. I lost the chamber-version meaning in the translation. :-( My comment still stands but should be redirected at Joachim Linkerlmann. I am no expert in chamber music adaptations of full scale orchestral works, but I find it unusual for timpani to be scored exactly as in the original and now called chamber music.

Very underequipped in male voices. The usual problem of a Jugendchor. It's hard to find young males who are interested in joining.

Way too soft, way too soft!!!!! Where in the workd are the tenors? I don’t hear them at all. A lot of people believe that the singing in this requiem is light but this is NOT the case. One has to have a solid operatic voice for this with full resonant solid chest tones and a great upper middle voice as well, the tenor part sits so high in tessitura but it is NOT meant to be sung falsettoish no no no! The music is heavenly but the singing is very much on the heavier side.

STRONG? You have to be kidding me. It sounds like they are vocally malnourish, anemic and weak, HUNGY. The best Brahms Requiem I’ve heard is the one with Caballe. At least there the tenors have some type of real presence: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eXZ5pq2hnq62XbA.html&app=desktop

@@beachfanatic2010 maybe I should have said 36:30 but the recording quality (overall volume) is much better here than in the recording you cite. For me effect is similar. Anyway de gustibus non est disputandum. I have sung this tenor part myself and they are all better than me :)
