Oops I liked this comment & didn't realize I'd written it myself 6months ago! Talk about vanity! Ouch! Though being an aussie & metric since 1973 I can't imagine why i'd have said 10' (ft) lungs. I surely said 3 meter lungs. Most of the world is now metric. Please join the rest of us USA!^^

the opening chorus doesn't at all sound fleeting or of minimal consequence. Praps Bach is parodying human attempts that are just hubris. The rising series of notes might suggest the attempt of Aeschyllus(?) to fly to the sun but just melted his wings so his hubris led him to death. Too spectacular for lyrics that seem to arise from the sobering sentiments of the writer of Ecclesiastes.

2nd movement sounds too fast, but that aptly describes the speed with which our life takes to end compared with God who is eternal. Do I hear a lute in this recording/ ? Not sure Bach had that in mind, but it goes well with the movement, Not that i'm much of a soloist, but one would have to be more on top of their breathing technique & not be scared of the German 2 make a good fist of it at that Tempo/? Pay the tenor & orchestra a 10% loading for the inhuman tempo^^!

Recitatives are by nature boring & not so musical, even sometimes a little moralizing, but she is merely reflecting the sentiment of Ecclesiastes. I wonder did Bach write anything else about eccles? Not Eccles from the BBC 'Goon Show' (Harry seccombe i think?) ALSO P Sellars & S Milligan. They were so funny & now they're all dead too. Eccles is the abbreviation for Qoheleth (Ecclesiastes) This soprano is so dramatic & grandiose. Fittingly to parody some of the attention seekers who often tend to dominate our 'news' (Gossip?) cycles.....

Last chorus just summarizes the above at a more sedate tempo, reminding me of my slowly increasing infirmities @65..... Thanks Bach & Koopman for the reminder! SDG! JJ! (Ok Mr Gardiner & Karl richter & all others who tackled this awesome ECCLESIASTES based cantata. Why didn't Bach write more on eccles? Why didn't Mr Mincham & other commentators mention this salient fact?. My colleague from Luther Seminary, Adelaide would surely love the musicalization of his favorite book in the Bible. Neither of us was ordained...... But along with Bach we know God had other plans for our knowledge, such as it is....

Thank you for uploading this video with score! But unfortunately the score is a very old edition with B-clef for soprano, alto, and tenore. That is useless for most choir singers, who want to practice with KZread or just want to sing with KZread-possibilities in Corona-times, because nowadays it´s common to print choir scores with G-clef(= «violin-clef») and bass-clef, not with B-clef. So the choir singers haven´t learned to sing with B-clef. B-clef requires transposing. That is difficult. If you consider to produce more videos with partitures, please use modern partitures! Thanks!

Personally I don't think people ought to perform baroque music authentically if they don't take the time (not much) to learn the olden clefs, which makes the music a lot more interactive and engaging, requiring more from the viewer than simply knowing the G-clef alone. That is just my view though, old fashioned like myself.

@@TheOneAndOnlyZeno1889 Though a fun learning exercise (and it really is, Ive done it), in fairness Im not sure the choice of clef one reads changes the music. Violin parts were often written in bass clef, the player was expected to transpose it an octave higher while playing. But even today's Baroque violinists expect an edition to rationalize all the violin parts to G clef as it makes things simpler, with no change to the sound. However, I think all the scores of this freely available don't have the vocal lines in modern clef convention.

@paulgeist544 Do you mean c-clef because I don't know what a b clef is and all I see in the score is c-clefs.

This KZread uploader does not owe you anything and you have no right to ask for any special favors. Plus, these are C-clefs, not B-clefs. Be happy for what is available, and if you want something particular, make your own KZread videos.
