#JoGLE

In April 2023, I set off on my biggest adventure so far: A 1600mile long hike all across Britain from Dunnet Head in Scotland to Lizard Point in Cornwall. I'm going solo with my rescue dog Otto, (wild) camping along the way.
Come along for Days 46 to 48 where we started the Pennine Way (southbound) and finally crossed the border to England. We had our hardest day so far and did a lot of climbing going over the Cheviot Hills. This first 40km-stretch was really remote with no water source for over 30km and definitely tough. But it was also incredibly beautiful with amazing views and I found a lovely spot to wildcamp.
Route:
Town Yetholm-Lamb Hill (16.8mi/27,1km)
Lamb Hill-Byrness (9.6mi/15,4km)
Byrness-Bellingham (16.9mi/27,3km)
I’m a bit behind on posting these videos (filming and editing while on trail is quite a task!) but I'm uploading new videos every Sunday and Thursday now so that I can catch up quickly and be more up-to-date.
Please subscribe (it’s free :)) if you want to stay up to date and support my work. That would really mean a lot!
If you enjoy the videos and want to support our adventure with a treat for Otto and a coffee for me:

My dream is to make a living out of my passion for being outdoors, hiking and creating videos that brighten your day - and your support means the world and I’m really grateful!
On our hike we also try to raise funds for the Green Forest Fund and the WWF. Feel free to support our charity if you can: www.betterplace.org/de/fundra...
Thank you so much!

Thank you so much, Chris! Otto is really enjoying himself and loves exploring and getting all the treats 😍 I really love the open space, but it's also very exposed in every weather 😅

😱🤨Step off the path and you'll die. England welcomes you! P'raps the Tourist Board and the Ministry of Defence need to have a conversation. 😮I just wouldn't have expected the lack of water sources in the first 30 miles. Hoping you got through in the dry. It looks glorious, so far. Thanks for sharing.

Hahahahaha, only really noticed the sign when editing the footage 😆🤣 I think there are a couple of small water sources and some a few hundred yards of the path, but since it was so unusually dry back then, all of them (except for one but even that was only a trickle) had dried up.

It was one of those dehydrated meals, I think from Expedition Foods. They have a couple of vegan ones that have 1000kcal weighing only 180g. Thank you so much :)

More lovely scenery, thank you Elli! I'm sitting at my computer at work and, thanks to your splendid photography, it is so refreshing to be able to see the Pennine Way for a little while, and remind myself there really is a world out there to go and explore. I know you've only just started on the Pennine Way but I think that already you have added that trail to my retirement to-do list, as well as the others in previous videos. Your videos are such a great advertisement for hiking and "the great outdoors" generally. Just think: suppose your videos encourage just 100 people to walk one or more of these trails who otherwise would not have done. That is a huge boost to their health and also to the local economy; if they each spent £500 on food, accommodation etc., that's £50,000 to B&Bs, etc. Well done (hotels and other businesses should be sponsoring you!). Hot and sunny - that looks like June to me, as it's rained a lot since. If that was two months ago, you must be getting towards the end of your walk by now - keep going Elli!

Thank you so much, Nick for always taking the time to write such kind, encouraging comments! I really appreciate these so much, they always make my day 😍 I'm really happy thinking that people like my videos and find them helpful and are inspired to go out hiking themselves. The Pennine Way is really stunning and has some beautiful parts but also some parts that are a bit bleak or boring. But I guess that's all part of the trail :) I'm really glad I did it! Ps: Yes, you're right - that was in June and I'm in fact nearing the end 😅🫢

Hi Eli, I’m following with interest as I’m hiking cape wrath to Lands end but in sections. I also enjoyed camping in the Garden there. I think section to Bellingham was my favourite part of the Penine way. ATB 🍻

@@ellihikes I have recently retired so I did the cape wrath trail 14 years ago and the Penine way more recently and then decided to start linking things up so apart from another 7 days on the SNT through the Cairngorms I have got as far south as my home town Leicester. I shall then use the McMillan way to north Devon but probably next year now. You take care and best wishes. 🙏👍

Thoroughly enjoying your videos , you and Otto look very happy, will the different camping laws between Scotland and England affect your trip in any way ? Scotland you can wild camp because of the right to roam law but in England you need to seek permission from the land owner.

Aww, thank you so much! Yes, it was definitely a bit harder in England. But so far, I didn't have any problems when wildcamping, of course following the 'LNT' principles as well as 'pitch late, leave early'. But on bigger trails like the PW, there are a lot of inexpensive campsites, so I ended up pitching there quite often, especially if I wanted a rest and pitch the tent early :)

Hi Ellie and Otto, I know I said it last time but it's official now so welcome to England. I've been telling people I know all about you and your journey across Great Britain and they all say the same thing Wow that bloody amazing. I have to ask one thing, what is that tattoo on the bottom of your right leg I've never noticed it before but I spotted it in this video. I'm going to hazard a guess at something to do with Trekking. Keep safe and well on your travels and I'm looking forward to seeing you next video. 😜👍
