Joel Embiid, 76ers collapse in Game 7, Jayson Tatum drops historic 51 Pts | NBA | FIRST THINGS FIRST

Спорт

Joel Embiid struggled with 15 points, and James Harden failed to reach double figures in the Philadelphia 76ers Game 7 loss to the Boston Celtics. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes debate if they are surprised the 76ers lost in Game 7 and discuss if Jayson Tatum proved he can carry the Celtics to a title after his 51-point performance.

I picked the Celtics to win that series because I knew the 76ers couldn't close it out when needed the most. They had a chance to close it out in Game 6 but they let Tatum drop 16 points in the fourth when struggle all game and let him drop 51 points in Game 7. Joel and James were just terrible yesterday. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised Doc gets fired, Harden leaves and maybe Joel asked for a trade because the expectations to win in the East seem too much for them to get bounced in the second round. This team might as well tear it down and rebuild because they can't seem to make that leap to go deeper like winning it all.

This point keeps annoyingly being made. You guys say it with ignoring context. Jokic was a two time MVP coming into this year, YES he’s going to have higher expectations than a guy who hasn’t won it at all. This has literally always been a thing it’s why LeBron doesn’t have 37 MVPs and Jordan didn’t win it every single year. When you win an MVP you aren’t only competing against other players the following year but the year previously when you won MVP and every year you win it you have to essentially outdo yourself even more and win even more convincingly. Now that we laid that to bed, where was all this outrage from Jokic fans when he literally stole the last two MVP awards?

@@RyKiliam Last year he was the 6 seed. This is just based on historical context alone, nobody wins MVP that low of a seed unless they did something we’ve never seen before, this why you seen Russ win it when he avg’d a triple double but even then that year was based heavily on narrative because of KD leaving. even with him doing something historical they practically gave the MVP to Russ that year off of narrative alone and when he won there was still a lot of people arguing for Harden, LeBron. Jokic stats weren’t eye popping and what he didn’t wasn’t more impressive than what Luka and Giannis did with what the teams they had and the production they had during the regular season. Aside from the fact he was not a high enough seed Giannis literally had a better year than Jokic. He outplayed him offensively and he was and still is light years ahead of him defensively. Last year should’ve went to Giannis or Luka. Also he won the mvp just the year before that too so not only would he have been competing with Luka and Giannis but he would’ve had to CLEARLY outplay and outdo himself from the previous while still being head and shoulders above the competition. I really respect the extent to which bru got upset with embiid, harden, and doc while basically ignoring his winning prediction. A bandwagon Celtics fan would be ecstatic the sixers choked, but bru was clearly more concerned with two players he appreciates underperforming. I used to think his constantly shifting alliances was just a great gag, but deep down he’s just one of the best fans of pure basketball and it shows

Exactly, but the Sixers quit in what was probably their biggest game in franchise history (if it even was to begin with). No matter who advanced, both teams deserved to lose when you look at the series as a whole; but Tatum (whom the Sixers could've had) easily had the biggest game of his life and put the 76ers to royal shame - such to the point it humiliated Embiid and Harden along with exposing Doc Rivers for who he really is - once again.
