Joe Walsh - Turn To Stone

Joe Walsh - Turn To Stone - Barnstorm
Hey now the well run dry
Pages of the book on fire
Read the writing ...on the wall...

Hoedown, say showdown
Everywhere you look
they're fighting...Hear the call...

And you know its getting stronger,
It can't last very much longer
Turn to stone

Well there's a change in the wind
You know the signs don't lie
Such a strange feeling and I don't know why
Its takin' ... such a long time ...

Backyard people and they work all day
Tired of the speeches
And the way the reasons they keep changin'...
Just to make the Words Rhyme...

And you know its getting stronger,
Can't fake 'em out much longer
Turn to stone

And you know its getting stronger,
It can't last very much longer
Turn to stone

There are better live versions. Look for the "laid back" version with Don Felder sometime, or the more classic live version from 2May1975.

I like to think of it as a generation which is typically thought of in terms of 15 years so I'm going with 1964 through 1979. My reprise is the grunge era of ~ 89 to 96. BTW I toss out the almost all the disco of the late 70's.

I think Joe is really underrated as solo act, growing up on classic rock radio, I felt like his songs had character to them that I didnt hear in others.

An amazing piece of music that I'm sure influenced a lot of later bands. The production's about as sweet as it gets while the band are faultless, and as somebody who plays the instrument I've never heard power chords sound so good on a bass guitar. Proto-metal at its best.

Remember commercials for "Best of the 60s or 70s" compilations - Not available in stores! 9.99 for lp, or 10.99 for 8 track or casette! Sorry, no C.O.D.s... That's definitely one thing better about now. Any song you can think of is at your fingertips and if you dont know what its called, you google a couple of the lyrics and there it is. Used to have to ask 20 people before anybody knew what you were talking about! I'm rambling.Take it easy!

Me , at least once a week I been listening to it like 5-8 times in a row , just the initial main guitar and bass riff is god like especially with that nasty fuzz pedal theyre using on the guitar and the bass , sounds like def playing through good old marshal tube amplifier half stack heads , can't beat the distortion sound those heads give to a guitar IMHO , only amp I ever used that sounded just as bad ass but in def more of a metal way , was this only mid 1980's Peavey practice/small gig solid state amplifier with a single 12 speaker , whether playing any of my Ibanez's, my fender Stratocaster , my Jackson "randy Rhoades" flying V guitar or my Gibson SG that amp just made them all sound like magic, too bad they dont sell peavey's any longer and marshal tube power heads nowadays are like over $2000 just for the head alone , at least the one I like the best anyway. song makes me feel like I'm hard core as hell , then it ends and reality kick in and my short lived fantastical self vision of myself quickly comes to be nothing more than exactly what it was , a fantasy lol.
