This is fully believable considering this man tried to cook a whole lamb by burying it in his friend’s mom’s garden. He did light up a fire in that hole before extinguishing it with damp rags. When they dig it out, it was not only uncooked, it was a rotting big slab of meat.

It once took me 8 hours (not including breaks and baking time) to make macarons and I have no idea why. The recipe said like 2 hours and that was including baking time. I did have to make new meringue but that should of only been an extra 30 minutes. I was up until like 3am making those macarons. They did turn out perfectly though and they were delicious so it was worth it. I guess I’m just really slow at baking.

It was just very tiring whipping the meringue for 30 minutes, realising I made a mistake, and then having to fix it again for another 30 minutes. My arms were sore. Yeah, apparently Joe and I have a similar defect when it comes to cooking. I assumed from the start it was boxed macaroni and cheese. When it became apparent part way through the anecdote that it was semi-homemade (not from a box) I was like, yeah, fair enough, 5hrs seems like a reasonable time.
Listening to Joe on Off Menu where he recounted his lamb story, I immediately expected this to be true.

I thought it was a lie because you can't make cheese sauce with mozzarella (it melts into strings, so doesn't incorporate well) and I didn't think anyone who struggled to make it would know that. I sometimes wish they'd do a follow-up on some of these: "Now tell us the real story". Because they've obviously exaggerated or changed certain parts for comedic effect or to try to trick the other team.

As one of four different cheeses in a roux-based sauce, and bearing in mind he most likely means low-moisture mozzarella, I don't think stringiness would be much of a problem.

Saw the title and immediately thought, "probably, yeah". With anybody else I'd be sceptical.
Took me upwards of 25 minutes to fry an egg once, I fully believe this.
A fellow student in our shared house at Uni came to my then GF (later wife) and asked how to make macaroni cheese. My wife began by explaining about boiling some water, for the pasta, and then she'd have to grate cheese, make a roux, etc. "No.." came the reply - "I've got a tin, what do I do with it?" She was a second year medical student.

I'm not sure how different "Mac&cheese" is from it, but the Italian version of macaroni cheese, "pasta burro e parmigiano" ("butter and parmesan", but very customisable), is also nicknamed "the cuckold's pasta" (pasta del cornuto) because it's so quick to make that it's perfect for a cheating wife who has to hurry before her husband comes home. Not only it took him five and a half hours to cook a dish of pasta, but _specifically the quickest one._
@jw7073
11 ай бұрын
Not that quick, the recipe used in Britain involves making cheese sauce with flour milk (to make the roux) and cheese, which takes a probs about the same time pasta takes to cook, and then it's almost always baked in the oven for 20mins or so
Joe Thomas is like the doppelganger of Tim Rogers, it's uncanny

It is so good, so much more than just macaroni and cheese, it has egg, seeded mustard, parsley, basil, breaded top, bacon or aged meat whichever you prefer, lots of cracked black pepper, 4 types of cheese, paprika, salt or msg, milk, can’t even remember everything you need, also need to time everything correctly and trim the bacon fat… lots of steps.
