@kl wies you seems pretty unaware about China and its economy. First of all China pulled out 1 billion people out of poverty so creating hundreds of billionaires and millions of millionaires was just a natural phenomenon. HK has the housing problem because of democratic ideologe planted by British Empire in Hong Kong, HK is actually over crowded and has no new space left to build new houses, Chinese government is ready to help it out, give residence to HK people but it would need few structural adjustments but few woke ideologe sitting in HK supported by western medis and politicians aren't letting it happen because China is being run by "undemocratic" government (which doesn't bend knees in front of US) As far as cheap housing is concerned, China has built cities after cities to meet the demand of millions of Chinese moving into cities but western media labelled them as "ghost towns" reading China's Urban Billion would help you understand it. Redistribution : Chinese government has spent trillions in building infrastructure (roads, school, hospitals and technical training institutes) all over the China facilitating disadvantage people of China living in remote areas. Saying this, you can do these redistribution and taxation programs to a limit, crossing these limits would create havoc in the markets.

@kl wies just to add more, high rents is mostly problem of states lead by democrats, for example California, in Cali needless and limitless government interference in housing market has caused the housing prices to shoot up leaving millions homeless or to pay 30-40% of income in house rents... This happens when (incompetent) government interfere in markets without any sound plan, an interference just for the sake of interference (to satisfy your political ideology)

Very insightful and prophetic of Professor. The recent regulations activities are signs of he said, addressing social and economic inequality, market structure like monopoly.

Pure capitalism is good for the toughest survivalists. If we cannot share some of our fruits, the hungry will attack us. Take care of the poor from moral and humanity standpoints.

Don't you love it whenever people say government's role is required, they just assert it out of things air without any argument whatsoever?

don't you love it whenever someone suffered from government mismanagement here and there, they just assert that state-lead development strategy could not possibly work?

Of course freedom is an end in itself. Wealth is ssubjective. If someone wants freedom, or security, or vibrance or variety, thosethey instantly become ends. Who is this guy to say it's not the end goal? Freedom can absolutely be and end goal and free markets are one facet of freedom. Shifting demographics is something government needs to be involved in? Uhhh why? You realize the gov created the one child policy and all of the problems that ensured from that right? Why would you just assume gov involvement is required to fix it, let alone help it? The baseline and control should be that freedom works things out, as have been demonstrated repeatedly. And that government involvement is problematic for so many reasons, as have been demonstrated repeatedly. Go read some Bastiat first. Who the fuck is this guy so ignorant of history and devoid of argumentation? Zero respect earned from this clip
