    To be fair they wouldn't have a job because the app needs GPS in order to match you with a driver, so if GPS satellites went down them not knowing where to go would be irrelevant.

    Yup. I graduated high school in 2003. We printed out directions all the time. No cell phones either. If you had one it was for emergencies only and not even the rich kids were allowed to use text messaging it was so expensive.

    Chris Cade I mean it’s honestly not our fault we don’t know how to navigate through cities, we can’t go everywhere and learn it. But it is easy enough to travel from state to state if you grasp direction and different major roadways.

    If I had a choice, I wouldn’t pay taxes. Fuck them. Unfortunately for myself, the employer sends the pay to HMRC then they deducted National insurance and tax then send me the rest.     I think part of the problem with asteroids is they have become something that our society doesn't take seriously. When he mentions the Tunguska event, I looked it up, and so much content is dedicated to what could have "really" happened. It seems with most of us, when we hear that something was caused by an asteroid, our immediate reaction is to think it's some sort of cover-up.

    Maybe the reason why the ancients peoples where so fascinated by stars and celestial objects was that there was an impact in their recent past (or mythology) and they're looking out for the next one. They may have thought the impact was punishment from the gods so they built massive temples and monuments to honour them in an attempt to prevent another impact.

    The Chelyabinsk meteor event only occured a few years ago over Russia. It was also an airburst about 15 miles above earth but over 1000 people were injured by flying glass from the shockwave.

    Thats one thing I love about growing up in the 90s. My dad used a US Atlas for family trips visiting my oldest brother on various Naval bases over his contract. Then land navigation in the Army kept me up to date with using a map and perfected utilizing one in many different ways. Glad I still have that knowledge... Question is, how much longer do I have it?     @shredded guy The only way they can redirect such a stone, is by pushing away a large mass in teh lateral direction from that stone, which should be at least two orders of a magnitude smaller than that stone. That seems impossible to me.

    As a huge history nerd, I think about a new "Dark Age" all the time. I preserve my life in material objects and notes so that hundreds of years from now, if humans are still alive, people can study the life of a common woman without needing online access. I've kept my favourite dresses, letters, birthday cards, souvenirs, relationship stuff, etc. because I think about what historians are going to be able to study years from now all the time. Again, this is because I'm a huge history nerd and think about history and the future of historical study all the time.

    I started driving long before GPS was a thing and man that was terrible to try and figure out how to get to places you weren't familiar with. I once took a girl on a date and got lost and looked like a total douche. The youngsters will never understand the struggle pre GPS.

    I always follow a simple rule, when I'm lost and it never let me down. "Small roads, lead to bigger roads, bigger roads have roads signs, road signs tell you where you are and where you can go from there". Plus, I can always ask for directions :D

    This has happened before. When the acid pulp method of making paper was invented in the 19th century, it was widely used. As a librarian, i had to deal with first editions of Dickens's novels turning to brown dust. Also, all the information stored on tape and the various forms of disk are all doomed. On the other hand, the books printed in the 16th century are still in excellent condition.

    I am among the few, I still use maps and know how to get to locations with land marks. If I wanted to go visit my grandmother I could go with out using a GPS just from doing the route a few times.

    I don't always pay attention to street names, but I have a fairly good memory for travel. I don't believe maps are as hard as many make it out to be, but I do believe one must be able to retain a sense of direction.
