    John: What are the four pillars of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Joeseph? Joe: I don’t know, what? John: A passenger train, traveling 60 miles per hour, leaves Fairfax station at 2:00 PM and heads for Springbrook, 200 miles away. At the same time, a freight train, traveling 80 miles per hour, leaves Springbrook heading for Fairfax. Now Joseph, a conductor on a passenger train cannot remember the last time a freight train traveled from Springbrook to Fairfax at this time of day. He’s not questioning you. It just seems unusual. A conductor on a passenger train has thought about it, and he’s fairly certain there’s just the one track between Fairfax and Springbrook, and there definitely shouldn’t be two trains traveling on it in opposite directions at the same time. You see Joseph, a passenger train is not really a passenger train at all. If you think about all the complexities between passenger trains and heirloom tomatoes, you will find 8 basic anomalies between the Araucana hen and the fact that it lays blue eggs. Blue eggs, Joseph.

  • @SkyThreader

    @SkyThreader

    6 жыл бұрын

    UnexpectedWonder it is the same, in order to minimize an explosive attack you have to implement certain techniques to CONTROL you're opponent which in turn keeps them from using an attack and it's easier to do that on the ground. I'm sorry but with stand up the only thing you can control is the pace. if you have them in the clinch, or you're at a distance while striking, control doesn't exist because your opponent has the same ability to hit you as you do to him. when you take him down you're decreasing that chance by controlling your opponents movements.

  • @cuzz63

    That’s not the 4 most recognized steps. Danaher forgot step 1: safely close the distance. Danahers step 2 and step 3 are essentially the same thing which is why Joe said the next step is to get the submission. The 4 steps are close the distance, get the takedown, improve position, get the submission.

    Characterizing bjj as a system is perfectly reasonable, but there is no necessary reason to identify those four "steps" in that particular order as the integral steps. I was confused why getting past the legs didn't occur before the takedowns, as if It is true--and it generally is-- kinetic energy is killed on the ground, the legs should not be so destructive there. I'm more afraid of getting kicked while going for a takedown than getting kicked on the ground. Perhaps these steps are not sequential?

    You don’t have to be explosive or strong to leverage another person who is bigger and stronger than you into a vulnerable position. For example sweeps in jiu jitsu

    J A this is a matter of semantics I think. Strength isn't always necessary because you can use leverage to execute an explosive move. Can you not use leverage to be explosive?

    Danaher is a skilled expositor. He speaks so quietly, but with such unshakeable and unquestioned authority, that you just have to lean in to catch every morsel. The exposition itself is thorough, principled, and methodical -- almost professorial. He's also a bit scary -- one has the impression of a fanatic who could crush almost anybody in five seconds.
