Those agents were only following the conventional media and entertainment strategies that had existed since Vaudeville; let the big promoters and studios decide who entertains and don't let minor comedians fuss about joke-theft. Had Joe Rogan confronted a prominent comedian in 1996 in the same fashion, Rogan would have been finished. The growing power of social media is what saved Joe Rogan and finished Carlos Mencia.

Inf Know Carlos had success after the video for a few years, several one hour specials and "mind of mencia" we definitely after the joe rogan incident. I think what really killed his career was the documentary "I am comedian" where he went on camera bragging about joke stealing in a very weird interview. He openly talked about how he steals jokes and just adds the word Mexican to make it his. I haven't heard or seen anything from Carlos since.

What exactly do you mean though? He's doing stand up comedy more like a hobby. He does it because it's fun to him, not because he's selling out bigtime and not because he is some kind of comedy genius. Most people would know exactly zero jokes ever told by Joe Rogan in a show. The guy is not a successful comedian, even when he can be quite funny in his podcasts. He's the ultimate wannabe when it comes to comedy. And I'm sure there may have been jokes stolen. But excellent performers simply think of new material that tops the previous stuff. Or they find a bit of a formula that allows to expand with new stuff, same flavour (think Dave Chapelle, but there are many more like that). Anyone who thinks Joe is a great comedian is out of their minds.

The man he outed was a BIG star, but Joe did it anyway. It's called "integrity" and "honor" and you obviously need to learn what those words mean. Some things are important and you simply do not get the fact that Joe basically stood up for people who were unable to take up for themselves.

The particular comedian was a nobody, still is to this day 2. hindsight is always 20-20, easy for Joe to think he did the right thing then when his career in a completely different area skyrockeyed and 3. I never denied jokes were stolen and never suggested Joe had no integrity, I'm saying Joe never had a future as a successful stand up comedian either way. Aside from how it is mildly hypocritical for someone who is against cancel culture, to try to cancel someone for stealing jokes in front of a live audience. Joe is like a person who would have loved to be a professional singer, but has to accept he's not even a good enough rapper to make music their career. The whole 'made a stand' is also dumb if you know anything about 90s era stand up. Lots of people were biting each others jokes.

I want someone to point a finger at her and tell her to stop stealing jokes and she's not funny.I love Joe , he's an awesome dude but that was so hypocritical of him .

Ryuobbi In this day and age there’d likely be 9 circles of hell to pay if he did something similar to Amy as he did Ned, especially with the platform he had at the time and has now. Calling a woman out is a bit hard now, even more so when they consider anyone who is not a self-proclaimed feminist “insane.”

I think he has talked about it, but wasn't really too hard on her, he blamed some of the writers because a lot of the theft was from her TV show (which has writers). The real reason I think though is because they are friends so he wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, and didn't want to grill her too hard. She was on the podcast a bunch of times, and she was actually genuinely funny. He hasn't had her on since though, and probably doesn't talk to her anymore because of everything. I also imagine he probably didn't like how he felt reacting so harshly to Mencia, and wanted to react less aggressively the second time around.

SHM K what kinda weird people can't look at another situation for what it Is. He did that like 10 years ago. Since then he has blown up with the podcast and is able to maintain (it seems, in my opinion) healthy boundaries between his private life, and getting to talk to cool people and make money and have a lot of listeners. I get how some of the things Joe says or does constantly might start to bother listeners, his podcasts are hours long multiple times a week. Your criticism is your right but as an observer of your comment, and a few years listening to podcasts, your comment is begging to be picked apart, because it is stupid.

His wife then said he’s one of those rare people who can remember any moment and any date from his entire life. Sounds like a perfect guy to steal jokes.
