The truth is they made the decision, they knew the consequences and it sucks that is has to happen but what is the alternative? Keep the kids in the cells with the parents? They broke the law, they have to bare the consequences. We can't just let everyone into the country, all that is going to happen is the country will turn into another 3rd world country. We already know what happens! Look at Germany and Sweden... This isn't some unknown experiment we need to run in the USA or Canada to find out whether it will work or not, we already know it doesn't.

FYI, the separation of children from parents from their kids has been going on for years, and yes even during the Obama administration. The main reason is they cannot put a child with an adult while in confinement. If we did then you would be hearing cases about children getting abused while under US care? As with the majority of these issues the solution isn't simple and an effective solution hasn't been done with any previous administration! Our politicians have never really tried to fix it and never will!

“A line in the dirt” is a gross understatement for our unprotected borders. It’s the border at which our sovereignty as a nation begins. You are not agreeing to abide by our laws by crossing that border without consent. The ambiguity of whether someone will follow our laws is one of the greatest dangers. So now that you have committed what has been proven to be a “nontrivial” crime, you go to a detention center. That’s how it works, and that’s not a place for children. They shouldn’t be held in cages, but neither should they be kept with their parents that have committed a crime. It’s just a typical scenario whose mundanity has been flipped by politics; people are trying to search for something inhumane in something routine for political gain. It’s silly and pathetic. Welcome to the criminal justice system.

Remember that highly secured prisons with adults only have rapes etc. so from not-so-highly-secured ICE facility you might expect more of that stuff so that's why they are separated. Besides... it's parents fault. If they go through dangerous journey to get illegally to richer country it's totally their fault if their children are taken away from them. They could do it legally and learn english and get legal job in better country so their kids will be safe but nope... Instead they do criminal acts so they are criminals and criminals are taken away from children.

This is a bad statement to go on with. The goal is Plain and Simple, to not separate the kids from the parents, it's not a battle of statistics , of like Oh, these kids don't have homes, so it is okay for these other half of kids to not have homes too. Even with that being said, we have A LOT of programs here for U.S citizens (kids) that get aid if without a parent. Most of the time, the kid will have a relative to stay with, like an uncle aunt, etc. We have foster care systems, that take in children without permanent homes. Rarely would you see a kid not taken care of, if any at all. If you see videos of illegal immigrant kids being cared for, its almost a prison like system, they sleep in a room with ten other kids, and they eat cafeteria food.

@Trustin Lewis Maybe because they have other family they go to during the duration of time their parents are in jail. Or, in some instance, the child are in danger from their own parents. The situation is quite hard to understand without content. But even if they were separated from their parents due to a crime their parents committed, they still have the option to see them or call them. They are never far away. But the situation of immigrants does not reflect this. No visitation, no phone calls, not even a letter. None of that is available because the systems misplaced them all. Parents don't know where their kids are, kids don't know where their parents are, and kids are in a strange situation. The situation of American kids being separated from their parents does not compare.

@Trustin Lewis Right. Under Obama. And Congress, with all their anti Obama rhetoric, didn't catch wind of it until Trump forced it even further. The Republicans, with all their dislikes on their former president, didn't even bother to bring this to light to show the people what a real sham he was. Right, of course. Either you are fishing for more excuses, or you are becoming desperate to not find common ground on a more cohesive solution for this immigration problem. Either way, I need sleep and I have wasted enough time and energy to try and reason with you. Good Night. 😚

Government doesn’t juts take them for no reason and if the government decides to take your children away then you must of committed a serious crime. It really is just benefits the children and keep them away from irresponsible parents but some people dont see it that way.

That's why people call them "illegals" it's a dehumanizing term that has a subconscious effect on the weak minded , making it easier to separate ourselves from them morally, this is a dog whistle tactic, a fog horn would be calling them "animals" like our current leader.

  • @insrtcowjoke

The issue with children being separated is pretty simple, actually: There are a number of people sending their children over the border, but aren't coming themselves. They literally pay someone else - sometimes an uncle, sometimes just some offering the service - to bring their children up here. To make matters even better, these people usually claim, "I'm their father/mother." This puts the US government in the dubious position of trying to find out just _who_ these kids are and who _their_ parents are. I mean yes, it's bad, but we're literally trying our best to make the best of a bad situation. Some of these 'couriers' aren't good people, and will set these kids up with modern slavery to gangs. So yeah, some kids are getting separated and not always correctly. That's the issue you face when people with no ID or with ID that you can't rely on. Seriously, what is the alternative?

It is not illegal to seek asylum under international law, point one. Point two the refugee convention refers to illegal manner of entry only to stipulate that such entry is not grounds for punishment. Point three therefore it is false equivalence to equate people seeking asylum with actual criminals as justifying the separation of families. A child cannot follow a criminal into jail, but a person seeking asylum has by definition not committed a crime under international or US law - it is at worst a civil violation which the refugee convention (that the US is signatory to) stipulates must not be punished.

Dude the problem is we don't confront these politicians in public anymore, if anything we were more critical of our leaders in the past than the present! We used to have more access to them in the past also they are becoming more and more sheltered from the public. They have been sheltered from the public so much so that they have lost the ability to understand the needs of our people.

Ummm when citizens break the law they get separated from their kids when they go to jail. Are they supposed to let children go to jail with citizens? Or does Joe think illegal immigrants deserve to get treated differently than citizens?

Mr407Mike Get a speeding ticket and don't pay for it you go to jail. Then your kids get taken away. Pretty simple. But I'm a drama queen for pointing it out. Obviously you can't have a civil discussion without calling someone a tool. Get out of your feelings and be a man. Children act that way.
