If I recall correctly, Frazier still wanted to keep fighting even after being knocked down for the fifth time, and his cornerman threw in the towel. And these were mostly very heavy knockdowns. Now, I've heard it said that the hardest punches often don't actually hurt as much because you temporarily and/or partially lose consciousness, and/or also go numb from the damage, but still. Most guys would have totally given up after the first or second knockdown.

💯Frazier was a different animal. I'm thinking about the one punch that put Moorer to sleep; Frazier ate about a dozen of those, and either stayed up or got back up. I'm thinking about Cus telling Iron Mike to just stay away from Foreman (that's old man Foreman); Frazier went back for seconds....voluntarily. Frazier is just true Philly; if you aint dead, get up. Imo, the Ali-Foreman-Frazier triangle was the bloodiest in boxing history....by a long shot. All 3 rightly in the goat discussion, and all 3 COMPLETELY different. One is the greatest imo, another might be the strongest/hardest puncher...but i don't think there's any question who the toughest is. Different animal.

But then when it came to Frazier, Ali kinda had to turn into scissors too...slightly faster and smarter scissors imo! But the analogy is well-taken in that imo each man has a valid goat argument: Ali: for the reason you mentioned---he's just a winner for many reasons including smarts, speed, skill, and heart; Foreman: hardest punch, arguably hardest chin, and greatest longevity; But Frazier: TOUGHEST mf. You're lessening the brilliance of what happened here. It's not about being, "a better fighter" or not. Frazier was in great shape but Foreman was a guy Frazier never could have beat. It's that simple. If Joe wasn't at his best, there's no way he could have gotten up from the 6 knockdowns. No way. George displayed the greatness of what he was and despite not being able to win, Joe kept getting up. This might be the only fight in history where someone's excellence was displayed in them getting absolutely destroyed. Cheers

And it can be hard to hit a fighter on the ropes-- Foreman was a mid-range fighter, that's why he pushed opponents away, to get them in range. It can be hard to hit a guy on the ropes at mid-range. Foreman punched himself out against Ali. Ali also got inside his head. It was also fought in very hot conditions in Africa. Not excuses, just reasons. Yeah Prime Foreman was seriously scary. He'd cave in heavy bags at training, when that dude starts swinging for the fences at you, maaan he had bad intentions, then he retired had a come to Jesus experience came back almost a decade later, got trained differently by Angelo Dundee and went to the top of the Heavyweight division (again).

Whats underrated was foremans ckever and highly skilled defensive techniques. His cross blocking and 'mummy' guard techniques were top shelf and availed him the time and distance to negotiate his attacking skills with the better fighters. Also his ability to adjust his defense on the run was , in many of his fights , the difference between victory and defeat. His fights with holyfield and eventually Michael Moorer at 45 were Master classes in defensive skill.

When foreman was making his comeback, I saw him training. When he hit the heavy bag, the impact lifted the bag. It looked slow but the loud thwack is the sound you make when you throw fast and with full power.

Foreman was an incredible champion and was a far better boxer than people gave him credit for at the time. A perfect match up for him against Frazier. Even so I’m very glad they mention what an incredible heart Joe Frazier had. He tends to get overshadowed by Ali and Foreman, but he was with out a doubt one of the greats
