I remember my parents coming into my room in 2005 saying that my coach the “young leader” was arrested for abusing kids in the program. I haven’t read the book yet but it is on my list of reads for sure. I was in the program from the age of 7 till I graduated high school.

I wanted to join the boyscouts but my dad gave me a talk about how there have been incidents in the past of inappropriate touching. This was when I was 9 or 10 but my dad never sugar coated anything..... And what's weirder is he was right. Most groups especially those focused on kids are nefarious. My dad would always drop these truth bombs that seemed so ridiculous at the time but later confirmed

This is a phenomenal interview. I was raised by alcoholic parents and kept away from everyone pretty much until age 13. I has only toys for a child until then. The Sodom and Gomorrah story in the Bible is the most incomplete incorrect or somewhat correct partly explained discussion of what the Bible actually reads, what it is, and what to learn from it and how to see those lessons today. It’d be cool to have someone explain it as it reads and how generally most understand it

Awesome!! I didn't know Joe was in Gainesville!! I grew up in the area and was paddled in. School too. I actually went to school and was best friends with Ross Allen's grandson. He founded Silver Springs. My grandma was also in the old movie "Creature from the Black Lagoon" filmed in Wakulla Springs. Good stuff.

Listening to them talk about the Bible has me excited for JBP's next visit. He's in Austin on tour at the end of April so I hope he swings through.

I laughed so hard at the explanations of Mormonism and then I felt so deeply moved at the discussion of the prodigal son. What a great episode!!

FYI she is way off about when the gospels of the bible were written. They were written way earlier than 100 years after death. I don’t think she means to be misleading at all - but this is a very important fact to correct.

I disagree. I haven't googled it so I may be wrong, but I went to catholic high school and biblical studies are mandatory there. I remember them teaching me something similar, that the gospels were written long after Christ's death so they can spread the teachings into the greek speaking lands, where they were literate. Judea were at the time mostly illiterate so writing testimony about Christ wasn't necessary at the begining of Christianity.

The New Testament was written from about 50AD (Matthew for example) to 90AD (Revelation) 🤔 Jesus died about 33AD so do the math yourself...

Glad I’ve found a comment on this. A wonderful guest but needs to brush up on her Biblical History .

The "casting pearls before swine" bit for me at times means: don't waste your time giving advice/knowledge to those who won't appreciate it. Like that one saying "A truth told out of season, is like telling a lie." Food for thought.

That’s my understanding as well, but more precisely pearls would be the truths of the Christian faith and swine are those living impure lives with no intention of ever changing. Don’t waste your time trying to convince someone of the faith when they’re chomping at the bit to mock you for it.

This woman has a beautiful voice. It's nice to not hear the valley girl/social media cadence....also nice to not hear the word 'like' 1000x
