That’s lucky as he’s a professional fighter.

Chito is strong mentally. Having to come to Vegas to compete in the Ultimate Fighter house, leaving his wife and beautiful daughter back home to fight for an opportunity to literally bring a smile to his daughters face. Lost in the tournament but, was given a chance to impress in Mexico City with 18k+ cheering for Beltran. The fight was awarded to Beltran but, Chito won that fight. Seeing him at the airport and telling him "animo Chito" and him replying "siempre" just showed me he's mentally strong. Nice to see him where he is now.

the sub on nunes was so anticlimactic cos it wasnt a typical deep choke that made it look like it was infact dabgerous.she was just so tired and mentally done she tapped just to get out safe. pena also didnt go nuts so I was like wtf happend. I didnt manage to get crazy and surprised,damn. I did go apeshit when miesha choked out Holm cos it was a deep choke and a helluva struggle with them scrambling all over the place and holm just going out punching. chills thinking bout it XD

What a wrong take. Shevchenko definitely had a healthy "fear" of Nunes in that second fight that she officially and arguably lost. Hence why she stood in one corner for the entire fight Tyron Woodley style taking unanswered kicks. And where do you see Peña maintaining technique exactly? She had inferior technique to begin with, let alone in those wild exchanges. If you really knew what happened in there, you wouldn't even mention Shevchenko, but rather bring up Nunes' losses to Davis and Zingano as the gentlemen above me did.

Look at both their faces at the end. Amanda wasn't that touched but Julianna's face was worked. But Julianna didn't give up. It was like a Rocky fight. Julianna ate the punches as her strength dwindled then went in and finished her.

Definitely one of the Best podcast this year…I actually enjoyed every minute of this podcast and I don’t even know the guy. But his dedication and love for Martial Arts is different and I enjoyed how he’s obsessed with MMA. Joe finishing the year strong with these great interviews.

It is always strange to me how dominant some fighters are then when they lose they seem so weak... prior to the Holm fight Ronda looked unbeatable and then Holm pointed out all the holes in Ronda's game and now Amanda who usually seems like an elite striker couldn't avoid a straight jab...

Ronda's coach ruined her.. tried to make her into a striker. She was dominate with jiu-jitsu and judo.

There was atleast one person in the world who thought Amanda could be beaten. And that person was Juliana Peña. What a moment!

Great discussion. Chito seems like a smart dude. I'd never learn much about fighters like him without their appearances on this show.

@@nightsphenom7122 my opponent and I both burned it up in the first round trying to take each other out. It was my first full contact fight, it was my opponent 2nd. He won his first fight with a first round knock out, so he tried to do it again. I trained properly but you still have manage your energy. It’s possible to be in shape and still wear yourself out quickly, marathons aren’t sprints.

@@backtothePI well you should take this as a good learning experience never rush unless your opponent is hurt and even so be carful it only takes one punch to end a fight you should take the first round easy if you see your opponent is rushing to take you out, use it against him because when you rush in a fight you make mistakes.

Every time I see or hear Chito, I’m more impressed. He’s a tough guy, true warrior. Started from the bottom in a place that has no MMA and got to the top of the mountain. But the thing I’m most impressed with is how smart/articulate he is especially given the fact he didn’t grow up speaking English. All round kickass dude!

one of the most exciting rounds in UFC history. I have to say that Joe and DC's commentary only added to the moment as it was happening. I truly enjoy that they are unabashedly fans as well as commentators. Tx Joe. You've been an integral, if underappreciated, part of the sports growth. As much as Dana is the UFC, so are you Joe.

@@landonmorel3715 she didn't look that way in 1st round....only as the 2nd wore on and she was unable to get a KO. I give all credit to Pena. She caused Amanda to fatigue by hanging in pocket and trading. Amanda was throwing every shot 100% hunting the knockout. It is draining to be the agressor going full bore only to realize that you've thrown your best shots and your opponent is still there.

Yeah that round is up there with 5th round between Leon and Nate as exciting goes. I agree with Joe though that it's inexcusable to get that tired in the 2nd round. Even Nick being away for 5 years and out of shape he still went 3 rounds and threw way more punches.

@@Lazy_Prophet Amanda didn't lack output. In fact she needed to throw less. It is exhausting (mentally/physically) when you underestimate an opponent. I've done it (as a wrestler) and I've been on Pena's side of it. You feel them wilting so you gain strength as they lose theirs. Mental stamina is as important as physical. Vera made same point....i put this ahead of nate/leon. Because it was with more on line and it slowly built to a climax. Whereas Nate/Leon turned on ! definitive strike....This was more Robbie/Rory like to me. where 1 fighter physically broke the other by enduring more. Although , to be fair, Rory's body quit on him. It wasn't him being mentally defeated

The commentary during Pena’s finishing sequence leading to the submission on Nunes was some of the best UFC commentary I’ve ever heard

Not only that but when Pena started to land. I was thinking ah they are not really having an effect but they knew it was building. Even DC said "OMG she might actually be doing it" (beating her). It was truly great commentary! It's become cool to hate on them recently but man you replace them and watch people not realize how good what they have is. Best commentary team in all of sports!!

The wrist bone was on her windpipe, even without hooks that was a legit choke. Amanda was tired but I think that was more due to adrenaline dump because Peña was a lot tougher than she thought. I don’t blame her for tapping. Hell, we all would if our windpipe was attacked like that.

@@pic5637 One guy called me a fraud when I said I saw rare confidence in Peña and expected her to make it a fight. There are also idiots who say she looked super scared when Nunes was standing over her in round 1. What I saw there was just laser focus. Some people see things. Some people don't. And some people think they do, but they're blind fools.

I think part of what made the Pena fight so great was finally for the first time since the Valentina rematch, an opponent didn't fight scared against Nunes. She lost the first round but wasn't worse for wear going into the second. Nunes's opponents are so timid of her right hand that they would be beat mentally before the fight even started. Even if Nunes would have ended up winning in the midst of the back and forth brawling, it still would have shown future opponents that Nunes's striking is power based not technique based.

I really didn't see pena beating Nunes, literally in the first round Nunes dominated as usual and me and my brother was having a conversation that it's nice but i can imagine that it's frustrating after a while that you dominate everyone in your catagory and then pena came out and finished job, massive respect to her, she did a good job and I hope that Amanda doesn't go the same route as ronda, I hope she pulls it back and keeps on going

Chito's elbows to O'Malley are still on repeat to this day

Valentina is the female GOAT (more title defenses) Also, she gives up a solid 20lbs to Nunes, and was robbed in their last fight.

I won big on Pena. I only bet on her when Mike Brown (IMO) lied about Amanda’s training in his interview with Okamoto. The fact that him and Lambert (in the countdown) had to mention her training and dedication seemed like a cover up.

Right before the fight, you see when it said someone in Vegas had placed a 338k bet on Nunes. Imagine their look of disbelief when Nunes tapped. Pena was a +650 underdog. They thought it was an easy 30k in the bag lol

Chito has awesome analysis. Would love to hear more from him

In previous fights, all Juliana's Weapons were close-in and medium range. But THIS time She was throwing these Long-Range BOMBS, accurately. A clear sign of improving her game...

Neither should be in a title picture. Have one of them beat a top 5 like Dillashaw, Aldo, Sandhagen and then we'll see about a title

I've been waiting for Joe to have Chito on the podcast for a few years now, this one and the episode with Kambosos were amazing. Hope to see more fighters on the podcast

Charles didn’t grab the glove. There’s better footage showing what happened in that sequence and Dustin himself confirmed there was no glove grab. Sad to see Joe not doing his homework on it. He really should know better.

I think the reason she quitted is because she recieved like 30 punches right in the face in less than one minute

I felt this!! The sounds of the crowd, the utter bewilderment on Amanda’s face and how when the fight ended Peña didnt realize it had ended. It was so overwhelming even as a viewer i found myself choking up!

Did anyone else notice that Nunes almost had a small smirk on her face the whole time? I'm not sure if she just couldn't believe what was happening but it felt to me like she almost welcomed the defeat. Like she was bored of running through all of her opponents and she was happy to finally have someone put her in a tight spot

Brohan, same. I stayed up after a 12 hour shift to see it and was not disappointed

Something about the way Amanda presented herself in the press conference gave me a feeling she was going to get humbled. It was just a feeling I had. When the whole world tells you you're invincible for so long, its no surprise you start to believe it.

Hey Joe, I have hypothyroidism, and I'm wondering if there is a podcast or a couple podcasts where you speak with the guest about how they've battled with their hypothyroidism. The way Jordan Peterson battled with his autoimmune disorder, I'm curious to know if I can use a certain diet, in order to not take medications for this condition. I hope you see this Joe. I was recording from the stands and you can hear the disbelief in the crowd. It was a moment of cheers then some silence. Probably from those in disbelief or those who bet on Nunes lol. (At least in my section where I was sitting). Amazing.

Remember when Vitor Belfort (which was my favorite fighter) fought Randy Couture?! Same thing. Vitor got exhausted and lost. He was used to winning easily prior. He's still a great fighter.

I think 90% was a wrist/leg grab. But towards the end, intentional or not, his fingers were in the gloves. I watched it in slow motion. He didn’t take advantage of it, though. Seems like it was an accident. Both are too respectful.

@@morayhan9398 as if that won him the fight or gave him any advantage. He still didn't execute the omoplata that it looked like he was going for. I think he did grab the glove and it caused the forward roll. Liike Chito said led to Dustin getting hurt. But Dustin chose to do nothing from closed guard. He did t even really lock closed guard, he had a guard body triangle. He wasn't executing offensively from guard or defenxing well against strokes from gaurd.

In terms of the actual finish of the fight, Nunes did quit. Pena brought her to that point but Nunes chose to quit at the end. Pena said herself she thought the round ended not that Amanda tapped.

I only have spotify because of Rogan. I haven't watched the whole Dr. McCullough's interview yet(I'm about 55min), but Holly Shit! That is a must watch interview, for sure!
