Absolutely!
I caught this tour! He played The 5th Avenue theater! We were only a few rows from the stage. After the first song he was noodling a bit before they jumped into the next song. ALREADY TOTALLY INTO IT... ...I bellowed out “WELCOME TO SEATTLE JOE! THANKS FOR COMING!” He stopped & looked out at us & asked who said it. People were pointing so he stood up & looked at me. “Well thank you! Thank you very much! Cheers mate, appreciate your having me!” SO FREAKING COOL! He got a HUGE hand from the audience for that! ANYWAY...Joe’s first foray into jazz-this time exploring New York jazz. GREAT show, fantastic musicians-TOP NOTCH! He would stay with jazz exploring different sub-genres. Along with The Beatles & Talk Talk one of my must respected artists EVER! His label-as did Talk Talks, DEMANDED a return to “hit music” he could care less LOL! It’s all about following the artistic truth of who you are; THAT to me is INTEGRITY!! SPEAKING of INTEGRITY...your wildly eclectic journey has earned you SERIOUS integrity! 👊🍻 Still loving your journey, thanks for including us brother!
Joe Jackson is a supremely talented artist-musician who can do just about anything. He studied composition formally, so he's very adept at writing and arranging jazz and light classical music, as well as straight ahead rock and pop. Probably his most celebrated song is something called "Is She Really Going Out With Him?", and I highly recommend it. If you can find it, I'd also recommend his arrangement of Thelonius Monk's "Round Midnight" for a tribute album called "That's The Way I Feel Now: A Tribute To Thelonious Monk". One more thing. In 1986 he released a double live album and in there there is a slow, organic version of "Steppin' Out" in which he fleshes out the song to its maximum. Check it out.

Yet another thing, and I can't believe I left this out last night. Jackson has a very personal trait in his piano playing that after you recognize it, you can't help but notice it. He does these octave staccato lines with his right hand instead of playing chords that you'd find in all of his piano work. It's there in his New Wave stuff, his jumping blues stuff, his light classical/neoclassical stuff, everywhere. It's sort of a signature the way Nat Cole's singular right hand playing or Tom Morello's whining/scratching soloing are instantly recognizable once you discover it.

Thank you, Justin and others with warm wishes, I am on the home stretch of recovery now. I'm glad you enjoyed this song. Anytime Bruce, I'm glad you're feeling better
Huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic in late 1982/early 1983. Production still sounds really good nearly 40 years later & the simplicity is no doubt why it was so popular-he was capable of composing very complex songs, but also knew how to create hits.
I was in highschool, and steeped in HEAVY METAL. And I loved this song.....

"Breaking Us in Two" is another great Joe Jackson tune.
This whole album (Night and Day) is an absolute belter.
Early MTV Memories
Joe Jackson is one of my all-time faves and a consummate musician/songwriter/composer. He actually started out as one of England's three post-punk Angry Young Men (along with Elvis Costello and Graham Parker). He stayed in that mode for about three albums, then shifted to a more sophisticated combination of jazz and pop. He's also made some big band and modern classical music. In addition to the piano, he plays alto saxophone. He's still alive and kicking today, making great music. A short list of my favorite songs from him includes: Breaking Us in Two Is She Really Going Out With Him A Slow Song It's Different for Girls Loisaida Fools in Love The Verdict Cha Cha Loco There's literally dozens of others, but I'll stop there.

@@JustJP one of my favorites too. I recommend the 1986 double album live album. All his hits with that super energy of live performance. Another underrated album is Big World.
If you only know his radio hits (3 or 4 probably) you may not realize what a great musician and lyricist he was. His songs were not the usual boring pop songs about ❤️. He wrote about gender (‘It’s different for Girls/Pretty Boys), pop culture (I’m the Man, Beat Crazy ), politics, racism, sexism ( Fit, In Every Home, a Nightmare). His first 3 albums were Punk, Ska, Jazz, Reggae, other....influenced. He transitioned into a more jazz and R&B sound. He even made an excellent Big Band album called Jumpin Jive. I could go on and on , however I’ll sum it up. JJ is my favorite non prog artist from the early eighties. The scope of his work is amazing. PS, Elvis Costello is a close second.

Fav EC song? I love the compilation double album ‘Girls,Girls...’. Lots of great songs. Maybe The song ‘This Year’s Girl’. Or ‘Alison’ or ‘Veronica’
Oh yes! This was a great upbeat hit! My best memory of this song was when I was visiting my dad and stepmother. They were living in Thousand Oaks, California. They had just bought a new Buick Riviera, dad worked in Malibu, called and said come over to my office, And well all have lunch. So we go out to the car and she says, here you drive! I was 22. So were driving down the freeway, a beautiful summer day, and this comes on, and I say you have to hear this great new song! I crank up the stereo, were flying down the freeway in this beautiful new car, and I'm with the world's best stepmom. And she really liked it! Seems like yesterday. Alas, they have both passed now.

Jackson was part of a uk wave in the late 70's that was well received in the states, along with Elvis Costello Nick Lowe Dire Straits Sniff and the Tears Graham Parker and Squeeze.
Thanks Bruce, you have excellent taste in music. Joe Jackson! In my top twenty favorite all time artists. His first 4 to 5 records are phenomenal. Look Sharp://I’m The Man//Beat Crazy//Stepping Out//Body and Soul. His Big Band Album, Jumpin Jive, really stands the test of time. Favs from my JJ playlist: Fools in Love/ Look Sharp/ It’s Different for Girls/ Friday/ Crime Don’t Pay/You Can’t Get What You Want.... Steppin Out is actually one of my least favorite JJ songs. Good Atmospherics but the music is too simple for my taste. His biggest hit though (maybe tied with Is She Really Going Out With Him?). Ps, JJ was a true multi-instrumentalist. I looked it up once, and I think he plays like 5 or six instruments (including that little harmonica piano thingy...forgot what it’s called). Edit: melodica is the thingy.
I saw Joe Jackson playing in a pub in London in the 80s, he was great. Give a listen to "Is she really going out with him" it was his big hit. Bruce, hope you feel better soon. see you.
This was another of the first videos in heavy rotation when MTV first came on the air. I love this song and the album. It’s really captures the anticipation of the night and its possibilities, especially for young people. I love songs about the night whether it’s this or Tom Waits, etc.. This song sweeps you up and carries you away. It’s magical.
The most influential album I ever bought was the 1980 "Times Square" soundtrack (never seen the movie) which introduced me to a bunch of great artists. Joe Jackson had a song on there as well as XTC, Roxy Music, Gary Numan, The Pretenders, Talking Heads, Ramones, Patti Smith Group and The Cure. 2 other Joe Jackson songs I used to hear on the radio a lot when living in England are 'It's Different for Girls' and 'Is She Really Going Out with Him?' and they're worth checking out in addition to other hits.

You've listed a lot of my favorite bands from that era. I also loved those two Joe Jackson songs. Also Sunday Papers. And, I guess, pretty much all the rest of that album.
first time I heard this was riding around Cleveland looking at Christmas lights as a child. I remember the glockenspiel sounding like Christmas bells. Joe is an exquisite musician and I encourage listening to his first 3 albums for pop, punk and blues. songs like "somethings always breaking us in two" "is she really going out with him" .
Cha cha loco by Joe Jackson is superb.
I love this song. It reminds me of high school and a memory of nervous energy and emotions being a teen..
I wish I could listen to this song for the first time again.
Won tix to see Joe Jackson at the Berkeley Greek Theater in the mid 1980's. Memorable experience, it made me a fan!
A wonderful little tune.
Big hit by Joe! Danceable,👍🏻❤️☮️🎹🎼
I was ten years old when this was on the radio, and I hated it. Watching this video today, I absolutely loved the song and want to listen to more from Joe Jackson!
I always enjoyed listening to this song when it came on the radio. I love that cool groove. It's just fun to listen to.
This song reminds me of NYC, in the fall, on a Friday or Saturday. Going out to a nice restaurant, then drinks and then dancing, til 2 in the morning.

Joe Jackson is incredibly diverse, Big band jazz, ska, new wave/punk, pop he's done it all
This whole album is fantastic. Lots of great stuff in his catalog. I've seen him live three times. Look Sharp was the soundtrack to many a college party. His bass player Graham Maby is great. @@kuhnhan Yea, he is also a perfectionist if I recall. lol
This is quite possibly his highest charting song, but his entire catalog is fantastic. Like many of the other artists you've chosen, he has a huge variety of styles throughout his career--including some instrumental and classical work as well as big band. JJ's great! My favorite of his albums is Big World--which was recorded live to get a more natural feel. The audience was asked to remain still and not clap. Hometown from that album is so good! Also, Joe put out a live album called Summer in the City that featured piano, bass, and drums. I would have never thought he could get such amazing sound with three people. I don't tend to like live albums, but that one is an exception. When I met him some years ago, he raved to me about how wonderful Walter Becker of Steely Dan was. I too am a huge Becker fan. I always especially liked Joe for that.
This was the first JJ song I'd ever heard, at the time of its release, and I liked it straight away. But it would still be quite a few more years before I'd really get into his Music and buy several of his albums, helped by one of my bands covering his song 'One More Time' and my band mates giving me his '80-86' live album as a birthday present 🙂 Saw him perform together with the original JJ Band here in Wellington/NZ when they were touring their 'Volume 4' album, and it was a great night, too! 😊 Gosh, even _that_ is now nearly 20 years ago! 😅
Joe Jackson was a fantastic artist from the 80’s, blending new wave sounds with a touch of Jazz! He was a unique artist who’s music has stood the test of time! Another of such artists from this era that you should react to is XTC. Where only making plans for Nigel, General and Majors, Dear God, Senses working overtime, Peter Pumpkinhead or Mayor of Simpleton are all great songs by this great new wave progressive band..

Haha, we're all learning :D
You asked at one point why people like watching your videos. Personally, I love sharing music. I worked in a record store back in the day, and I loved finding folks that I could share artists with. They'd buy records and come back in a week or two... maybe they would be looking for more, or maybe returning that dog of an album I suggested! But we'd talk about what their impressions were, and keep looking for music they might enjoy. Finding a record store that you 'fit' with was really wonderful... I think you would have loved them. Anyway, you're fun to watch because you appreciate diverse types of music, and you've clearly really listened to the tune and have insightful feedback. I rarely get to share new music these days, so it's nice to sort of vicariously share your discoveries with you. I'm going to give you two recommendations that will certainly make an impression! * Mr. Bungle - Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz. Jazz synth metal circus cartoon music from hell. I dare you to listen to the tune and not crack a big smile. * XTC - River of Orchids. Underrated and influential Brittish pop. This is not a typical tune for them, but is a remarkable, quirky, and lush tune. You need to explore XTC, sir... so many good, good songs ranging from manic punk/synth/pop to rock to pop to... well, this song. Have a safe and merry holiday!

@@Kevvinm Will join up on FB straight away, thanks. As for where to start with XTC, it's hard to say. I think for Justin River of Orchids would grab both his appreciation with more challenging music and depth of melody. It's about as proggy as Andy ever got (I assume it's mostly a Partridge song). But it is hard to choose one XTC song to represent the entirety of their catalog.

That totally makes sense, and would be a great way of not only sharing and exploring music, but doing so with a sense of community as well. @@JustJP It also helped that I was in Santa Cruz at the time, working with really eclectic folks with eclectic tastes. One guy would obsess over any pop band with a hot blonde in it (Berlin, ABBA, Til Tuesday, Roxette, etc.)... others liked more classic rock bands. One guy was totally into Eugene Chadbourne who, I kid you not, played the electric rake. I definitely learned to appreciate different styles. Woop - got cut off - I'll wrap that up. Some songs I would initially hate when they got played in the store over and over, and I would find that sometimes those songs just grew on me, and I reluctantly came to love them. Dunno why. In fact, those tend to be the songs which grow on me more and more over time. The songs I like instantly tend to be the ones that fade faster for me.
Excellent choice. I always loved Joe Jackson. I'd also recommend Ben Folds.

Stef Vanstiphout You mean the chorus. There is no bridge in this song.
This is one of my favorite love songs of all time. It's also one of those tunes that's great on its own but even better in the context of the Night and Day album. It is the song the entire first side of the album leads up to. The flow of that first side (the Night Side) is awesome, even a song like TV Age which is pretty weird on its own it fits perfectly into that context.
