Joe Jackson, much like his contemporaries, XTC, and Elvis Costello, showcased a broad range of styles (which he, and they) all excelled in... from punky / pop beginnings to bebop jazz, to pure pop, beautiful piano ballads, orchestration. They're all worth exploring. Jackson's biggest songs were "Look Sharp," "Is She Really Going Out With Him," and "Stepping Out," but I'd opt for his most beautiful songs like "Home Town," "40 years," "Real Men," "Evil Empire," "Angel (Lust, featuring Suzanne Vega on vocals)," or "Tuzla (Avarice)." These are songs that can pull a tear from your eyes, make you think, or send shivers down your spine. As for this round... Gotta go with Got The Time... which is permanently stuck in my head... ha ha. LOVE that one. Great reactions as usual, gents... and there's a LOT of great stuff to explore with Mr. Jackson. Cheers!

I’ve seen him in concert 5 times and he never disappoints. He still has it as of 2 years ago. Do yourself a favor and see him live…

I stumbled into this while looking at JJ stuff on youtube. I am always happy to see new people introduced to Joe. He has so much great stuff in all different styles of music. I have seen him in concert over 25 times, most recently in 2022. If you want to give one of his more obscure songs a try, give a listen to "The Man Who Wrote Danny Boy" it is again a completely different style then either of the two you listen to here.

It's really fun to see Joe getting some love on reaction channels the last year or two. He's one of my all time faves and as other commenters have noticed, even as you two commented in the video, he is a WILDLY diverse artist who tries on different styles like they're hats. Covered by Anthrax... and Tori Amos. How many artists can say that, haha? He was a scholarship kid to the Royal Academy of Music in England and his classical training and sophistication always show through. He'll weave classical motifs subtly into some of his pop hits. If you guys do any more JJ I'll be back to watch it. Check out two of his more balladic, melodic songs that showcase him as a solo performer if you want to do another matchup; I'd suggest this arrangement of Hometown / Be My Number Two that Joe is playing live here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gISTmMN7d5m0oZc.html

Friend produced I’m the man and toured the states when the album was released. He bought a Cadillac and had it shipped back to the uk and he hired it out for bands videos. Can be seen in culture clubs church of the poison mind. They also hired equipment and helped out at rehearsals and the recording of pils metal box. Sadly I’d just started my first job so couldn’t go with them.

Joe can do Songs in any style. Some good slow songs of his are A Slow Song, Breaking Us In Two One on One And Real Men. On the Radio is almost as manic as Got the Time. His two biggest hits were Is She Really Goin Out With Him And Steppin Out which got very heavy play in the early days of MTV. Memphis and Chinatown are real obscure but great also as is the whole Look Sharp Album

That’s a good analogy to Steely Dan for Can’t Get What You Want. As a bass player I am inspired by Graham Many’s work especially on the Look Sharp album.

Joe Jackson really is a unique artist. He was lumped in with other British "Angry Young Man" singers like Elvis Costello and Graham Parker (not bad company) at his start. But his music resisted labelling. He was constantly evolving while managing to maintain his own signature sound. His albums were always impeccably produced and featured great bands. One of my favorite musicians. If you guys are in the mood for another battle, how about "Friday" vs "Happy Endings"?

For the record (pun intended), Dave Cairns did not play drums on the album. Dave Houghton did. But hey, that's just me nitpicking... Great reaction! MORE JOE!!! Try "Good Bad Boy", "Fit", "Enough Is Not Enough"... Or any other song, dammit! lol Cheers from France!! P.S.: and yes, Joe is a huge Steely Dan fan. He did cover "King Of The World," "Reelin' In The Years," (he played the original guitar solo on keyboards note for note) and "Any Major Dude..."

"Got The Time" hands down. Anthrax covered it, but Jackson's version is superior IMO. If I were going to put up a song against it of a different style I'd choose "Crime Don't Pay" from the album "Beat Crazy".
