Blues-rock's biggest ambassador walks us through his three core sounds and the legendary amps providing their firepower.
This time, there were some new members of Bonamassa’s ever-growing-and-shrinking collection of gear-which he spoke about at length earlier this year with Cory Wong on the rhythm guitar kingpin’s Wong Notes podcast for PG-pressed into service, including some recent-arrival Les Pauls, of course, and perhaps the most covetable collection of historic badass amps ever played on the Ryman stage. But rareness, novelty, or familiarity isn’t what determines which toys come out to play. Bonamassa starts by building a rough set list, and then chooses the right instrument and amps for each song. So, watch, look, and listen!

Joe B is phenomenal, but I don't hear anything original in his guitar licks, and why so many pedals? Plug the LP into a decent amp and let's hear it.

F joe. He is super rich. He hoard s thousands of amps he will never play making it almost impossible for young musicians to play a old fender. I m glad he uses dumble. Because they need to be played. But the thousands of fenders he will never look at. He has triple the prices of amps
Always incredibly fun to see what Bonamassa comes up with! 😁👍
Joe. I admire your persistence for your quest for tone. Trial and error can be a very tedious job. That rig is incredible. So is your playing. Big fan of your music. ❤
Joe is my hero for always going that extra mile. A guitar nerd's dream rig.
I actually just saw him this weekend at the Orpheum in Minneapolis. I was lucky enough to go backstage and see the guitars meet the techs and the sound guys that make it all work. This rig set up is insane and to see it all in person and up close was a life changing experience. Big shout out to Matt the Drum tech and Big D the guitar tech for answering all my dumb questions, Along with the rest of the Staff!

IwAnted to get you to allow me the pleazurs of getting a zignature or more on something youd liked to put your hancock on bro great sound allwayz bro joe.
I love this. The articulation is superb. The core sound is actually pretty classic but the layered effects create scale without ever sounding processed (though there’s nothing wrong with that). There’s also a lot of redundancy here which is helpful on big shows. Where some of us geek out with pedals, he’s geeking out with amps and it sounds terrific.

This comment made it make sense to me. Like I get certain effect pedals but I don't understand when I see someone say "I have this great dsl with multiple channels but I just use one and a distortion pedal" like dude, you have Marshall tubes right there! Why are you using a 100 pedal that imitates the real thing you have right there! Great. Now I want a bunch of amps...
Dudes face says it sounds better than anything he has ever heard on stage!
Just saw Joe utilizing this setup a few weeks ago. The various tones blew me away...🤘🤘❤️
Joe's rad, great player, super self aware, full nerd, he's just one of us that put in the time and made it. Great shit

Huge sound! Would love to hear Joe do his rendition of White Room!

John's enthusiasm for interviewing/witnessing Joe playing is matched only by Joe's reciprocating enthusiasm! Awesome watching this...

Fantastic as usual! I have been waiting for fender to announce the release date for the Joe Bonamassa 1948 dual professional anyone know when this is going to happen?
reminds me of the rig The Edge uses
Unbeknownst to Mr. B, his FOH engineer runs a split of the guitar signal into an HX stomp and then directly to the mixer. The amps are just for on-stage noise
4:08 sounds epic, so much so i can get the same tone on my orange cr35rt 👌👌
Joe's amp technician has done a great job. The patching and switching of all the different amp and speaker combinations would be a nightmare.

Great video, what a shame the volume is so hot it is killing the mic. Lesson learned for next time.

A goal in life should be to find a partner that looks at you the way John looks at Joe B.'s playing!
Joe's rigs and playing is disgusting...ly awesome, my favorite of all
Joe DROPPIN F BOMBS!!!
Does he still have the Christopher Cross Dumble amp?
To my ears his sound is always kind of muddy with booming low end. But he definitely makes it work. I’ve always leaned towards 50 watt Marshalls so I think maybe I’m low end sensitive?

Sounds too muddy . Don't care much for this rig. His playing blows me away. I liked his sound back when he played Albert Royal Hall.
I think everyone has a good friend like Joe, I know I do. You get an awesome guitar for example. You run to him and say look at this check it out man! He says "that's awesome man, Ive got the first one ever made, and have 5 total." You just look down to your feet.
Wow
That was hilarious ! Thanks !
Yep…… my my AxeFX does all that tube stuff too 🤪
Looks like John got more than he anticipated
It must be associated with the name "Joe". Look at Joe Perry's amp setup from Aerosmith. He must have eight or more different brands and models on stage. Each for a particular song.
What an incredible setup. Nothing bougie there LOL
it sounds freaking humongous!
Talking to Joe B is like talking to thee nerdiest star wars toy collector. Sometimes it doesnt make any sense to have all those all at once. On stage 😂😂😂
Joe bonamassa e' in grande
Where does the crackle come from while Joe is playing? Already coming out of the speakers or a recording problem?
In the magazine, the tweed twins were called twin reverbs lol, but I knew what they were
Fuckin guy is the balls best guitarist of the modern era🎸🎸
Interviewer asked one question Joe Bonamassa plays and jams for 15 minutes excellent what a great interview and what a great guy for both Joe and the interviewer! When I guy is that open and let him go.
Long way from his simple narrow panel tweed rig. Doesnt matter it all sounds great
John was the guest, right? :-) :-) :-)
Joe B. KWS Gearheads. No tech showing their rigs. It’s all them. Premier Guitar. 🎸🎼
Imagine Jenn from Norm's being PG's showrunner. (:
That Les Paul looks stunning n incredible sounding
Joe is almost way too incredibly good for me to feel like he's a hardcore Blues Man who came up in the trenches...... at the same time I have mad respect for him and the equipment that he uses and that he brings it out on the road and doesn't care how much it cost he's going to bring what he wants out no matter how much it costs and bring us the best show he possibly can. I respect the man because of that but he's playing is just too good for me to listen to him like I would Peter Green or old Clapton From cream or Paul kossoff and stuff like that

His playing is a joke compared to Peter Green or Gary Moore.
The tone❤❤❤❤
I would love to see prs try and replicate that rig lol
Hmmh, only seven amps for one guitar?
Bollinger reminds me of Jim Carey in The Mask. Like he's ready to break out some cheesy one liner about Joe B's rig.
He is sounding more and more like Eric Johnson these days!

Blues used to be about problems in life and played with a beat up guitar, an overdrive pedal and a small amp, all cheap or used. Then it became music for deep pockets with Eric Clapton having Soldanos and custom shop Fender guitars and amps and now with Joe B. having Dumble, custom Fender amps and vintage guitars.

If I wanted to hear a violin, I'd go see a violinist. I'm just out there I suppose, but I prefer the more raw tones of Jimi, Jimmy, Cream-era EC, Rory, and many others. Definitely not these reverb and delay-drenched tones that sound like anything a multi-processor + SS power amp could do without even breathing hard.
