JodyJazz HR* Custom Dark Alto Mouthpiece - New for 2020!

Музыка

The HR* Custom Dark is Jody Jazz's more traditional option, offering darker tones and a smoother more silky sound. As the alto can sometimes be overbearing and shrill in areas, the custom dark really helps soften the sound allowing it to sit in a jazz setting more seamlessly. The rollover baffle is still present in the mouthpiece, but the large chamber really compliments the mouthpiece well. A great jazz mouthpiece!

Finally, I have resolved my internal alto v tenor debate. This mouthpiece has tipped me over to my alto by allowing me to create the sound I hear in my head and has vastly improved the quality of my higher notes. I am channeling Paul Desmond / Art Pepper and loving every playing session.

Sounds great. I love the dark tone it has compared to the original HR* and the smoothness of the sound.

Sax UK. Everyone says vintage Meyers play better cause the old rubber (Theo Wanne, Joel Fraham, etc) Is it the high sulfter content? Why cant the load the new ones up with sulfer if so.

Hi may I ask what the best ligature is for this? Trying to see if Rovner will work. Hoping it will because the other ones are pricey lol thanks!

This is the same guy who owns the Jody Maroni Sausage Company I don't eat meat but I hear they're good. So he does mouthpieces and sausages, what do you think he'll do to make it a trifecta?

Both sound very good. I wonder how the Dark HR would stack up against Jody's DVNY metal MP?

I have both….the dark is a little darker as it’s hard rubber. The DV NY is dark but as it’s metal, just sounds that bit louder and not as dark. Not much in it but both are superb

I have the same Yamaha, and you can do anything with it. This mouthpiece goes for £300 .. see what you can do for the same price, or less, that will have lasting impact: 1. Change your reed; use, say, Vandoren Blue, harder than what you use, but allow more air. Or, use Hartmann Fiberreed, Hemp or Carbon, which will scoop out the low notes and subtones like nothing else; you'd think you have a new saxophone! 2. Use leather ligature, say, Rovner Dark. Use this in combination with reed change. 3. Consider getting V1 Yamaha neck for your alto; it will open and broaden your sound regardless of mouthpieces you have. With V1 neck, you can get this type of sound by default and is, like, having two saxophones.

I have just bought the Custom Dark 5* from Sax.UK . Tyler from J.Jazz`s recommended the 5* or just possibly the 6*, I did try the 6* and found it a little hard to blow ( my Age probably) although the sound was amazing to my ears, unfortunately I am waiting for the 5* to be delivered from Jody Jazz US I guess ? (three long weeks), I hope it blows as freely as the 6*

I love Sax.co.uk and have been a returning customer for getting on for 20 years having bought several saxes and mouthpieces over the years, HOWEVER, some of the stuff that comes out in these vids is absolute twaddle! "The brass ring gives more harmonic possibilities" Really Jim??! What does that even mean?? The next bit is even better: "the part where the mouthpiece connects to the crook: its very important to have this true connection here". Seriously, c'mon. So the mouthpieces that I have which don't have a brass ring on them dont have a 'true connection' (whatever that is)?? This is almost as risable as saying that a sax in black lacquer will have a darker tone. If only someone could make a sax in white lacquer so I can get a lighter tone....Guys, you are the pre-eminent sax retailer in the world you dont have to stoop to this sort of nonsense!

Mark, this is Jody, Jim Cheek is a good friend of the saxophone community as well as a good friend of mine. Jim is saying things that I have brought up in my explanation. I did not mention the connection with the crook, but it is a fact that when you add the mass of the solid brass ring on the shank the sound becomes thicker, which I believe means there are more harmonics in the sound. I am not saying that your cynicism is totally uncalled for in today's world but my experience with Sax.co, almost all music stores that I know, and the musical instrument and accessory manufacturers is that they are really trying to make the best products and give the best service for the best price. - Jody Espina

@@jodyjazzofficial Jody, thanks for your response to my rather ungracious original comment. Point taken and apologies if I caused any offence. Can I also say that I am a convert to your products as of this year. The latest addition is an HR * for my tenor which is the best mouthpiece I've ever owned. All the best.
