My son was privileged to be a backup dancer for Jody a few years back at BB King’s in New York City. While he’s danced at larger venues, he still counts that experience as a highlight of his career. Jody and her band were so humble, approachable and family-like and he loves the musical era she represents. What a performer! I loved the show and seeing her live. Best of luck to her (and Josh says hello!)

Jody Watley definitely deserve a "Hollywood Walk Of Fame" she was ahead of her time as a solo artist.

Glad to see Tamron Hall giving Jody Watley the praise and recognition she deserves from her years on Soul Train to her solo career. There's no one like her. One of my first concerts was seeing Shalimar.

Jody Watley looks good period!!! I loved her on Soul Train. I loved her with Shalamar. I loved her as a solo artist. I love the tone of her vocals.

Jody is the unsung artists of the 80's she laid the trend from her voice, ability to dance while dancing and fashion. She ruled the 80's.

Jody is a class act. She so down to earth.

She is still fabulous ❤️❤️❤️

Jody was a supermodel (before Naomi Campbell) and could blow a fierce tune starting in Shalamar. She’s gorgeous, unique, iconic, and a trendsetter. I still rock her music!

When I was very young I used to see Jody watley on trendy melrose Ave. in Los Angeles. Before her first solo album came out. She used to walked alone...calm . Soooo polished and put together..hair pulled back in a pony tail..large dark sunglass. Usually dressed in full black in well tailored clothing mostly pant suits ...looking so beautiful, so much so I still remember today.

Yes she does! WOW. Luckily she put on a few healthy pounds with age, because had she still been slimmer, it would've been over because she would look even younger. Like did you find the ⛲ Fountain of Youth?! Look at Tamrin Hall in her 50s.

In my opinion Solange is a better singer than her sister.

Jody Watley made Shalamar. I’ve never accepted them after she left. Howard Hewett and Jeffrey Daniels didn’t treat her well. And then she went on to have massive success in the US as a solo star - huge hits, Grammys. Revenge is a dish best served cold!

Absolutely Guy and so true! I also had heard that Howard Hewett didn't wish her well and didn't think her solo career would go anymore. He was such a damn diva and I never really liked him. Well, many albums and videos later, tours, fans, the works she got that revenge alright. Jody Watley is so beautiful, gracious, humble and a lovely soul. Love me some Jody Watley!

@@mickeyrosa7226 I totally agree. I live in the UK and Shalamar’s albums The Look and Friends were big successes. Jody said that on her way to the music show Top of The Pops, the other two guys went in separate cars and were cruel with shares in money too. She then launches her solo career and Looking for a new love becomes massive, plus the Grammy, and she had many other successful hits like Friends. Howard must have been seething with rage! I love me some Jody too!

@@guymichel8533 LOLOLOLOL I hope Howard continues to seethe with rage because he hasn't had a hit in years. Now, he can sing and I will give him that but that's all. Jody is the real winner here and still making music even today and I'm glad. Check out some of her other videos on YT where she had made a transition in her style of music. It's really good.

Those people slept on Jody Watley's style and I used to copy her and was in awe of her and her beauty. Janet Jackson and Madonna was on my copy list as well. I knew she dressed herself in her own videos and tours because I had a VHS tape of her different videos and there was an interview on there. I was ecstatic when she went solo and I remember like yesterday, when I walked into my local record shop and heard her first solo single and bought it right then.

We love Jodi Watley! It's a shame but not a surprise, then and still now, how many beautiful black women with great influence, a savvy business mind and sex appeal still are often blocked from excelling in Hollywood. The record execs knew exactly what they were doing by denying black women from more wealth and becoming megastars. Madonna's leather jackets, hoop earrings, bras and lace skirts and even her 'male gaze' or siren dance 🎶 was even "inspired" after Jody. Tracee Ellis' character "Joan" wore big hoops, a silent dedication to the "Wattage." Those with a good eye and strong sense of fashion or if you zoom in, traces of Jodi Watley with or sans Shalamar are always traceable in Hollywood. Arnold Swarggenhager even says: "Hasta La Vista...baby! " 🔫 in Terminator, also from Jody's song. 🎶 ♥

@@luckysaira4470 Yes, it's the truth many people as you see don't want to hear or endorse. Also, Jody Watley was the first to inspire "voguing" which she showcased on Soul Train in the early to mid 70's. Madonna later picked it up and because she was a pop artist, she was given credit for it.

I saw Jody In concert at the Fox here in Atlanta in 1989…. You don’t have to be black to appreciate her music and fabulous hits! She was awesome in Shalimar and not once did we ever back then think she wasn’t the star! Because she was the queen. Love her music and us “white” people appreciated her greatly! I totally didn’t see “black” with her I saw an extremely gifted talented singer and entertainer. She stood out with her fashion and of course her musical talent!!! So pretty!!

As a teenager back in the 80s, I definitely tried to copy Jody's style, especially her solo career style. I wore my weave long and curly, hoop earrings and clothes from Merry-Go-Round. lol...those clothes were definitely not appropriate for school.
