    That's still the most efficient performance I've ever seen in CBB... He got 50+ points on less than 25 fg attempts.... Crazy..

    Imagine if Meeks came back to UK in Calipari's first season....Wall, Bledsoe, Meeks, Cousins, Patterson. No way that poor shooting performance happens against WVU.

    That’s for sure. But it had been a while since UK had a guy with great NBA draft stock, Meeks was ready to go. We definitely needed him as a 3 point & Free Throw line threat for post season

    I remember this game well. If memory serves, Meeks broke Kentucky's all-time leading scorer, Dan Issel's record for most points scored in a single game by any Kentucky player. In 1970, Issel scored a then UK single game record 53 points against Mississippi State. A record that stood until Jodie Meeks scored 54 in this game against Tennessee in 2009. I never saw any replay of Issel's performance in 1970 against Mississippi St., but I was fortunate enough to have been watching this game. I'd have to say the only other single game scoring performances by a UK player that stand out with this one in my mind would obviously be Jack "The Goose" Givens's 41 points in the 1978 National Title game when Kentucky defeated Duke, and the other that springs to mind in recent years I suppose would be when Malik Monk went off on North Carolina for 47 points in the CBS Classic back in December, 2016. His jumper was very Jodie Meeks like in that game as well.

And then to add insult to injury, totally lose it down the stretch and not even make the tournament. My, my how things work out...thank you for sucking so bad 2009 Cats! I don't think people realize how dangerous Lakers are going to be ... I've had my eye on Meeks since his days at KU and he was still lights out in Philly ... great reserve, along with Nash to space the floor for Howard and Gasol ... if Howard is completely healthy, Ebanks matures into Ariza 2.0, Lakers could be looking at a potential 2- or 3-peat ... give credit to Kupchak and the organization for pursuing greatness

    This is the kind of ball I've always dreamed of seeing-a pass-first, lights-out point guard; the most skilled, creative wing player ever in KB (IMO); a long, skilled cerebral 4-man (w/no ego); more shooters off the bench; and a once-in-a-lifetime big that will accept being a 2nd/3rd offensive option while concentrating on rebounding and protecting the rim. When LA goes small, just one big, along with Nash, Meeks and Kobe, watch out ... key is team chemistry, pass, share, humble, excellent

  • @chadestes7718
    @chadestes771812 жыл бұрын

    I agree. I'm not a Laker fan by no means, but they are going to be scary. Too many weapons. Meeks will get some open looks and he's lights out. It's going to be hard to pressure him with Howard, Kobe, and Gasol at 3, 4, and 5. Nash will get giant assist numbers and alot of open 3's as well. LA vs. Miami is going to be like a freaking all-star game.

    When UT cut the lead to 7 with under 6 minutes to go, I was saying to myself "one more stop,and we'll take this game". Then Jodie hits a 3 . . . and ANOTHER 3 . . . then he gets fouled and hits 3 FREE THROWS. GAME OVER IN a 2 minute stretch, the Vols went from one stop away from cutting the lead to 4 or 5 . . to down 16 points via Jodie going on a 9 - 0 run all by himself. Great performance by Jodie.

    Well, they almost went back to back. An injury to Derek Anderson left them losing to Arizona in the Championship in overtime. But the '96 team had guys like Ron Mercer, Antoine Walker, Tony Delk, Anthony Epps, Derek Anderson, Walter McCarty, Jeff Shephard, and Mark Pope. I mean, 9 of the guys went on to play NBA ball, with the majority being first round picks. Talent wise, simply incredible. I mean, they had enough talent overflow to go to 3 straight championships, winning 2.

    Crap, I meant Allen Iverson. I don't know why I typed Carmello. My bad. But that doesn't change the validity of my point, the '96 draft was a lot more talented than its 2007 counterpart. Rajon Rondo's in the playoffs, as was Tayshaun. Chuck Hayes plays with the Rockets, and Morris is getting minor time with the Hawks. Plus, Matt Bonner? Really? Does a guy really get a ring when he averages 4.8 points per game?

    @pineapplepeanuts It's because in the NBA, you have to be able to create your own shot. In the pros, everybody is good, so a great player in college won't necessarily be a great player in the pros. You're not going to get all of those screens on the pro level. For Jodie to be a successful scorer in the NBA, he'll have to be on a team with a good PG who can drive the lane and kick a pass out to Jodie for an open shot.

    Haha, it's called the relative strength of the draft. I mean, who did your gator players have to compete with? Greg Oden? Kevin Durant? Who else? In '96, you had guys like Carmello Anthony, Marcus Camby, Kobe Bryant, Stephon Marbury, Ray Allen, etc. You know, real talent. Besides, the '96 team is widely considered to be the deepest team in NCAA history. Plus, who was the last Gator to win an NBA title? I mean, Rondo's won one, Tayshaun's won one, they're successful players. No Gators?

  • @wildcat69410
    @wildcat6941015 жыл бұрын

    Because your question's irrelevant. The strength of a program lies on far more than its successes or failures within the past 5 years, it lies upon its tradition. Yes, recent success is important, but apart from your back to back run, which hasn't even been close to replicated by the Gators in the past two years, what has Florida really done to justify your insane assertion? Simply put, Kentucky has and always will be the class and dominating facet of the SEC.
