I am not sure I will ever get over having these two incredibly inspiring women on the podcast at the same time, not only because they are game changers in their own right - Jodie won two Oscars and Kali is a three-time boxing world champion - I am absolutely obsessed with ‘True Detective: Night Country,’ Have you seen the True Detective season finale? If you have, can we please discuss it immediately!
If, however, you have missed the action so far True Detective: Night Country is a murder thriller set in the high arctic of Alaska and follows two detectives, Danvers (Jodie) and Navarro (Kali) who are on the case when scientists from a research facility go missing. The disappearance isn’t all that it seems as the research facility is not only linked to a mine that is poisoning an indigenous community, but it also appears to be linked to a cold case of a murdered woman from the community. It’s edge of your seat stuff!
In this episode Jodie Foster interview who you will of course know from the likes of ‘Silence of the Lambs’, ‘Taxi Driver’ and her 2024 Oscar nominated performance in ‘Nyad’ talks about thinking her success was a ‘fluke’, growing up in a male dominated industry and dealing with sexist microaggressions, turning 60, the anxiety that came from comparing herself to her younger self.
Meanwhile in this Kali Reis interview, she also talks about the everyday discrimination she faces as an indigenous woman, using moments of discrimination as an opportunity to educate and how when competing in a male dominated sport people thought just because she was Native American she grew up in a reservation.
What I love most about these two is it’s obvious they have not only become such a great team, they are both finally at the top of their power after finding freedom in their lives which is something we always celebrate on this podcast.
Make sure you check out the full interview on the Reign podcast wherever you get your podcasts from right now and if you are equally as inspired by Jodie and Kali please get in touch - you can find me across socials @joshsmithhosts as I always love talking to you. Josh x

I loved season 4 . I loved the story line and these two amazing actors. So happy to have two intelligent, strong and vulnerable women being represented. Having an indigenous and elder represented is the cherry on top. Thank you

What a very powerful season, the best of the series for so many great reasons. Kali Reis was unforgettably AMAZING and hope to see her in many more projects. Reis working along Foster only helped to make the season SACRED MEDICINE and a HUGE THANK-YOU to writer and director, ISSA LOPEZ, so thankful about the DARK COUNTRY story you've shared with the world. We've ALL needed this INDIGONOUS storyline and so many more!

Two amazing women, so much respect for them both. They’re intelligent, strong, very likable and genuine. Both beautiful also, great genes, style and Jodie looking natural, and Kali interestingly decorative - her dimple jewelry works for her!

Discrimination ? how many times,,, men are discriminated massively discriminated against, and the class system is the poison, Jodie has again got it right, and does not buy into the nonsense the interviewer wants., she is too intelligent to play the blame game.

To much focus on identity, minorities and spookeries made this season both slow and actually quite bad imho. Had great expectations so it was sad...

@@LittleYoki It's only an opinion, there is no right or wrong here. The writing was really bad too. Season one was also slow but with good writing and acting it moved forward with great suspense. Not so much here in my opinion. 😙
