This is what a world class ballet company should look like in 2020! Wonderful to see a black ballet master leading an exceptional class with dancers of all colors! Bravo Joburg Ballet for leading the way. Paris Opera and other Euro companies should take note. This is the future of ballet!

What the people above me failed to realize is that you were speaking about INCLUSION. Diversity in classical dance. But when you don't know what it feels like to be excluded, you see inclusion as discrimination.

Tinita Bondi 1) Why are we talking about Europe in an art form that is now Global? Europe itself is now Global. It’s not the 16th century. Wake up. 2) We had and have our own histories and art forms. And then “Europe” came and stripped us of all of that. And then we created them again and “Europe” tried to take that from us again. So if you all can have access to hip hop, our hair styles, our speech etc, let us enter a ballet company. You take everything it’s in your nature. Kisses from Portugal and have a great day!

I have watched this a couple of times and I am still in awe of the lady who is wearing the rosé skirt and leotard with the grey pants. She is so graceful and pure joy to look at.

In view of all the problems in SA, such a pleasure to see this company with a high level of dancers. Very pleased to see an obvious focus on meritocracy, without regard to race, the way excellent ballet companies have to be. Also, a great studio. The ballet world will have to work on getting Joburg Ballet Company some pianos and excellent pianists. Girl in beige top, peach skirt, grey warmers: a beautiful dancer with tons of potential!

The country has to deal with issues such as extensive power outages on a daily basis. Pianos & pianists have become a dreamed of luxury.

The girl in beige really caught my eyes as well. She has a lovely sensibility. As she trains and finds more ease in movement by riding her breath she will surge to great heights.

More black people in a company within a country that is 80% black, you don't say?

But they have a long way to go, compared to other ballet companies. You can see they dont have a long history of ballet dancing, in the way the move, the technical abilities and expression. You can see a lot of basic technical mistakes in their execution. You can see they don’t have the best teachers/choreographers yer. But the energy and passion is there, so I am looking forward to their development!!
