Thanks for watching! There are some roles that do require some certifications. I know my state requires all of the high school coaches to get a certification within the first 2 years of coaching.

Have you finished school ? Are you currently employed ? I’m currently in my last two semesters of a BBA in Sport Management and don’t know where I should start. I know I want to work in Sports but not sure what department . Game Day operations seems interesting and I wasn’t aware until now that you could working in sports marketing with this degree.

Hi, I am still in school but also have jobs in the sports industry. I coach high school volleyball as well as work in game day operations for the same high school in the off season. I would definitely recommend finding a job or internship to do in your last few semesters. This will give you experience in the field to help give you an idea of what you would like to do. You could even reach out to your schools athletic department and see if they have any opportunities. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other question.

no exactly, I had a range knowing I wanted to be in athletic management and coaching. I knew I didn't want sales and marketing as much but I was not exactly sure what I wanted. As I went through school and got experience in the field I figured out more specifically what I wanted to do.

I want to be an athletic director. However, I was wondering what major is better to get there. I have heard that a degree in Physical Education get you in there easier, but I was wondering if Sport Management was a better option? I am currently majoring in Physical Ed but I am still uncertain between these two.

I would see if the school has a minor in sports management. It also depends on if you want to be a high school or college AD. For a college AD a sport management degree is better, for a high school AD an education based degree is better.

@@ManagerKiley Yea I plan on being a HS AD. My strength coach said an education-based education is better but a sports administration masters is needed. My local HS AD said he got his job as a sport management major and a masters in education administration. Thats why it is very confusing for me.

@@sacramentopina6320 There are multiple paths to gettin to be a high school AD. I would recommend a background in both education and sports management, but you could choose either to be a masters vs undergrad.

I would recommend sport management, especially if the school also offers a business background with it. This will give you insight in to the sports industry as well as how to run a business. Running a team is very similar to running a business. Some schools also offer certifications in coaching. this may be helpful to get a background in how to coach a team. I would also recommend looking for internships with both the team you may be interested in working for or another team in the same league.

The degree would give you a good background in t he many aspects of sports. If you want to own your own firm it may also be helpful for some business background. The degree is a good starting point but in not required to work in any part of the sports industry.

I am US based and there are tins of opportunities for a masters degree in Sports Marketing and Management in the US. There are also lots of market opportunities in both professional and college leagues. Schools like Colombia, North Carolina, Georgetown, Alabama all have programs. there are also programs in the UK, France and many other countries throughout the world, depending on where you want to end up working.

  • @ManagerKiley

I would recommend finding any information t act is relevant to. both industries. As you did fashion maybe try to find a way in through marketing for their merchandise and apparel lines. Every professional sports team has one. This might sound cliché, but find others that have the job you want or something similar and network with them. Informational interviews are a great way to get to better know the industry and better understand what skills are best for the field you are going into.

It all depends on the program the specific classes you will take. Usually the programs have an intro course, sports marketing, sports finance/Econ, event management, sports law. There may. also be specific classes to the school. My school had a special class on transitions to D1 for college athletics because the school was going through that.

Depending on where you are located some schools call their AD a sports administrator. could also be called an athletic administrator.
