😓Joann Fabrics Closes Forever
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Trails of tears is all that will be left after Joann Fabrics Closes it's doors for good On March 30, 2024. I live in a deeply depressed area & crafting has helped so many. Now with Joann's closing...I'm not sure what will happen. I know you can order online now...but it's not the same as going to a "real" store. For me, there is a deep sadness in my heart.

My neice started Cosplay when she was 14, so by 18 she decided to sew more than costumes. All we had by then was JAs. I kept telling her how wonderful Hancock's was, but she just couldn't grasp it. Five years later she graduates in Architecture, lands an awesome job in a large city and finds a great condo in a nice complex to rent downtown. First time she came came back to visit, she was so excited to see me. "Aunt T, guess what? I can walk out of my front door, walk about 50 feet to exit the complex, turn right, walk one block, make another right and guess what the second store is? Hancock's!!! OMG! Now I understand what a real fabric store is!!!" At least she got to experience it for a bit......

So sad to see this. In the late 1970s I used to work p/t at our local ClothWorld. I was a sewer before I started but learned so much more from the other employees as well as clients. As schools drop Home Ec no one will learn.
In my local Joann’s most all the employees are nice. They finally got a clue the quilting is big and they put together a whole section on quilting fabrics, and necessary tools. They have brought in layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls. Now if they could add Moda and other fabrics I like it would be so great but they at least are stepping up and noticing what would be an improvement! I hope they stay in business.
And I agree about JoAnn's. I've been saying all along I could just sit down and cry about them closing the store.

It's not online shopping, JoAnn was online and even selling internationally and doing well. Because they were in profit they got bought out by a non-craft company who installed a load of people who had been selling sports equipment and, in one case, weapons of mass destruction, in executive positions, and they drove it into the ground.
@jeanniebee8235

They need to understand (I have to laugh at this...I don't think they want to understand) that we want to feel the texture and drape of fabric, and to see the color and scale of the prints, etc. I have so much on-line fabric that doesn't meet my needs! A lot of Joann's Keepsake calico is stiff reminding me of lightweight canvas.
@grammaterry6
4 ай бұрын
@@jeanniebee8235and perhaps Keepsake Calico feeling like canvas is part of their problem? Who wants to buy 100% cotton for quilting of clothing that handles more like canvas? Quality is not always what is should be at Joann’s and sewists know this…great place for costume wear… I always have a problem with high everyday prices. Their sale prices are where they shoukd be priced all of the time… no gimmicks and coupons trying to catch clueless shoppers! And keep the store clean, please?
Mine was in a mall too! Just closed in January said the rent was going up too high. Maybe the stand alone stores will make it. I hate online shopping can't feel the fabric. How sad.

So sorry your store is closing! I’m afraid of what stores in my area will be next! Not all of us quilters can afford getting fabric at the specialty quilt stores, which by the way are closing too! 😢😢😢
While it's quite sad to see stores closing down , especially with the emo music playing in the background, we gotta take a step back and see what's really going on here. Chances are, this closure didn't come out of the blue. It's likely been brewing for some time due to some serious mismanagement at the top levels of the company and I read that there’s been over priced products and rude staff. It's been pretty obvious for a while that things haven't been going so well. Instead of just getting all sad and mopey about it, let's use this as a chance to reflect and demand better from the company. They need to own up and make some changes to their business practices so we don't see more stores closing in the future! Imho 🤷♀️
I am so disappointed, fabric is beautiful and to be able to walk in a store and look and feel with your own hands is quite amazing!
In my opinion, once the family sold the original Cleveland Fabric, the quality, inventory types, and customer service declined. Then it became a craft store. Some of the younger sewists will never know what once was a wonderful shopping experience. I am sad for the employees, but will not miss the current corporation.
I’m so sorry your local store is closing too.,our local Joann’s closed a few months ago and I realized how Joann’s was my happy place, I could touch and feel the fabric and see the true colors of the fabrics before purchasing. Now, like someone else mentioned the next fabric store is about 25 min away. We are creatives, and we will work it out! Right! ❤
I was in my local Joann's today and it's a newer store, opened about 5 years ago. Lots of empty spaces and several last chance areas. About half the fabric available was fleece. I am hoping they are just reorganizing to bring in all the new prints they have online. A store an hour away moved to a new building and I love it, so much room for fabric and the back 1/3 of the store is yarn. I have to drive to another state if I want a 'local' yarn shop😢 I really hope the company survives, not much left around us anymore!!

Oh my gosh. So sad. They have been around forever. Hopefully they’ll stay in business with the new owners.
Going to JOANN is therapy for me. I hope the company is able to recover!
The Joann's closet to me was about 40 minutes away and it closed 😢. Now when I go to one it's 2 hrs away so if I need anything from there I stop by after a Doctor's appointment. It's so sad.
I'm worried about mine now. The store here is just as empty as the one you are showing except this one has a ton of fleece. And there is still a ton of decorative items which has some of the same items as Family Dollar.
I stopped shopping there a few years ago after a return incident. Bought an item online and it wasn't going to work for what I needed it for. Took it to the nearest store over 80 miles away to return. Cost $50 and they wanted a $25 restocking fee!!!!!! I was floored. The ladies in line behind me were tripping because I was so angry and heard what was going on. I left and never went back.
Very sad, I remember going there with my mom when I was little...
Mine closed over a year ago. Now I do most fabric and craft shopping online or an hour away.
I’m Canadian, and I only went there once. I had to pick up my jaw several times bc I’d see something I’ve only seen in KZread and stuff I can’t find around me. I always said I’d go there again. Hopefully this summer, I can go again.
Heart breaking
The closest to me is an hour and 15 min I make that trip once a month. Would love to have one closer🙌
I was in that store about a month ago when I found out they were closing. So sad. 😢
Our Joann Fabrics closed several years back in my area. We were all heart broken. Since then a local sewing shop opened up a quilting fabric store which is wonderful, but 5he fabric is 2-3 times more expensive. I know I sure miss our Joann’s fabric and the great sales they had. The closest one is to me is like 1 hour drive, which makes it hard I’m thankful we still have Hobby Lobby or I’d be hurting for fabric.
Joann's was my sister and mine go to fabric store. Then, they started to compete with wally world and started to bring inferior fabric, 'junk', etc. They messed up by lowering the quality of the items.
My local JoAnn's looked open, but there was so much trash out in front of it. I couldn't understand why the manager wasn't sending someone out front to clean it up. No one would want to go in with it like that.

The entire corporation is in terrible financial trouble. They have filed for bankruptcy and will most likely be closing many more stores in the near future. Very sad.
First it was Hancock Fabrics that left, then our local quilt shops, Joann’s left with the last hurricane. Hobby Lobby is all that’s left with inferior fabrics. It’s a 45 minute drive to New Orleans. I sew for my sanity and your safety. The universe is conspiring against me. 😊

As a garment sewist, I truly wouldn't care if they closed. Then I could at least justify a 3 hour drive to Atlanta once a year. JAs fabric selection for garments was always the worst in town when we had other alternatives. For years its been easy to see they truly did not care.

@@cliftonmcnalley8469 I have started thrifting for good fabric on out of style apparel and upcycling. Making skirts from tablecloths, etc. I make my own clothes and fabric stores in general cater to quilters.
We lost our AC Moore when I was jewelry making, then I turned back to sewing & went to Joanne yesterday & saw many sales but seemed prices higher. I.e. tea towels are $14.99 & even 70% off they're more than I would spend. Dollar Tree used to have a variety of fat quarters but they are now skimpy. We have Hobby Lobby in another county & I've been doing some macrame too so I look for those craft supplies too. I do shop online but you're not sure what you'll get. We do have one quilt shop not too far & I've bought remnant bags of fabric there. Walmart's Wrap & Zap is cheaper...it's used in trivets & bowl cozies. 😢

Ours is closing April 21st. It is so sad. I tried to stock up on things for projects for at least 3 years out. SW GA
I do hope with new management they realize it is a fabric store! We want high standards of fabric and a large collection of sewing items. no flags, candles, knick-knacks, lawn art.

I have 3 JoAnn stores near me, all within 15 miles of my home. Two are older stores, and one is a huge new store that opened just last year. I'm wondering which one(s) may close. Was in the new store just last week and there were a lot of carts of unwrapped bolts of fabric, so I'm assuming they'll keep the newer store open and possibly close older stores. I knew it was a matter of time before JoAnn's filed for bankruptcy, but it's still a bit surprising. So sorry Tracy, that your store is closing. 😢

Yes, but the better stores are the older ones. The newer store is so mis-managed. The pattern drawers are never restocked. They just put out boxes of patterns and the customers have to hunt through them to try to find the pattern they are looking for. The store manager should be fired for how poorly the store is maintained. I usually go to one of the older JoAnn stores. Nicer employees and the pattern drawers are always stocked. @@TheSewingChannel
This totally *sucks* ! They are the only remaining fabric store around…. Where will we get sewing supplies now????
I noticed that this store is in a mall but so many others are more or less free-standing (as in a little strip with a few other stores! Wondering if the regular mall stores are the first to go? People don’t go to malls much if at all because of the problems!!!
So glad that my Joann’s is staying open. I love going there. They are so nice at my store.❤🎉😊❤️💕🙏🫶
Mine did the same in December. Heartbreaking. Same boat good hour to other stores. 😢
That's very sad. It's really upsetting when your local sewing shop closes its doors. The local one that had a machine serviceman closed last week, the nearest repair agent is now 4 1/2 hours away. As an aside - I was surprised to see that you had your items in a plastic shopping bag. Single use plastic bags have been illegal here in Australia for some time. Reusable shopping bags made from 'what was I thinking' fabrics are a great way to make room - for more fabric. I really enjoy your videos, thank you, and best wishes😊
My JoAnn just closed as well :( only 5 in the US and ours were one of them

I just found out my local store is closing too. I never shopped there much because my Joann's is small and a bigger Michael's is in the same shopping center, but I can understand how bad it could be to lose one when there are no other craft stores nearby. If Joanns wants to stay alive they need to seriously update the way they do buisness. Especially their website.
Im sorry to hear this.
I've been an avid shopper since the 90's. Everything from cross stitch, knitting, and crafting. I've become a quilter in the past 3 years, and I have to say, I buy exclusively on Etsy because you can't beat Moda in terms of quality and selection. So sad, but nothing to do about it. I hope the stores that stay open really step up their game.
The empty shelves do not look any different thsn any other day. Their poor sales practices and lack of inventory is the reason for their decline. They have wonderful coupons that cant be used because they put everything on sale to disqualify the coupon. Sad
The small JoAnns near me closed a few years ago. It was sad and so inconvenient
Mall locations are the kiss of death. Malls in general are falling by the wayside.
Our close one closed too.
lower their prices and get better quality fabric might help their sales more
😢 I started crying watching this video Sewing & crafting were so much of our lives. We all went to craft shows & sold our crafts. I remember when China started making a lot of our crafts we made for our homes started an end to selling ours at craft shows. How could we compete with cheap labor 😢
Sorry your store is closing.
I think they need to reorganize by getting back to the basics. Leave the home goods stuff to Hobby Lobby and Michael’s. It was called House of Fabrics before JoAnns for a reason. Also, when you go public on the stock exchange it’s about profits and shareholders. That’s when it went downhill.
