I have heard this performance many times but each time I am startled by the unearthly beauty of her voice.

Her voice is so beautiful it's mesmerizing. Here's another example of why, in my opinion, she will always be the greatest soprano of the latter 20th century. This is my favorite version of this song; I prefer it to Pavarotti's. Thank you to whomever posted this clip!

@@Tkimba2 una bellissima voce. Che l'abbiano criticata nella interpretazione di mattinata, per la sua dizione italiana, non perfetta. Lascia il tempi che trova. Molti cantanti stranieri e italiani nella dizione italiana cantata, hanno tutti qualche insipidita'. E incorrono in qualche errore. Bisogna tener conto sempre della intera interpretazione. E non soppesare e svalutare la stessa, solo x la dizione.

She was already world famous at this point. She started singing at Covent Garden in 1952 and had her tremendous Lucia there in 1959. In 1960 she sang in Paris and Venice and in 1961 at Metropolitan and La Scala.

l doubt it. She was slightly taller than Calls (173cm) and slightly shorter than pavarotti(180 cm, you can notice in videos here on yt)

I disliked her voice because she went on singing far too long but this is absolutely more than beautiful effortless high notes ritch voice stunning performance.

È impossibile che uno straniero - a, pissa avere una, pronuncia perfetta in italiano cantando.nemleno del Lobaco, o pavarotti cantabdo bel loro idioma erano perfetti. Figuriamoci una straniera.io mi permetto di correggerla,asserendo che ci sono vari livelli che si avvicinano alla perfezione grammaticale che linguistica.

@@francescovamo6210 ognuno ha il diritto alle proprie opinioni ci mancherebbe.... Molti cantanti non di madrelingua italiana hanno avuto una pronuncia molto buona, anche la stessa suttherland ha avuto nei primi anni di carriera un italiano molto spigliato.... Poi ha voluto fare il soprano drammatico e ingrossando artificiosamente la voce ha purtroppo offuscato la pronuncia.... Certo anche italianissimi a volte latitano nella comprensione del testo... Per me è questione di studio e volontà.. Niente è impossibile.... Un leggero accento a un cantante non italiano va comunque perdonato... (se poi ti sa fare cose strabilianti come la signora di cui parliamo....)

Quando ascolti Mario del Monaco il resto lo puoi buttare nel cesso, a maggior ragione una soprano in un ruolo da tenore...
