for anyone wondering about the origins of the lyrics in this song, it's literally the diary of a soviet soldier made into a song. obviously a few parts were written by sabaton themselves, but most parts and the chorus are from the diary. oh and give a listen to hearts of iron if you haven't already :D.

Stalingrad is my hometown. I grew up in it. Now he is named Volgograd. In the battle of Stalingrad, irretrievable losses amounted to: 1. USSR - 1 129 619 people 2. Hitler's European Union - 1 500 000 Nazis It was the Battle of Stalingrad that became the turning point of the entire WWII. When the allies landed in Normandy, the Red Army confidently drove the Nazis to Berlin. To fair retribution!

We know where he died, but not where his grave is. In a few years, I will travel there to visit Stalingrad. Thanks for the video! „Can you imagine being a soldier in Stalingrad“ nope and i don’t want to... the average livespan of a red army soldier in Stalingrad wasn’t even 24 HOURS!! Bc the germans had captured so much of the city the Russians send their reinforcements with wodden boats over the river that divides the city... most of those boats where completely squashed by mortar fire... Stalin even refused to evacuate the city so the time the battle of Stalingrad begun around 40.000 civilians were still there, more or less hold hostage by their own country... no matter what faction you are you could freeze or starve to death every time! And when Stalingrad was surrounded the soviets played loud voices and a ticking sound... 24/7 the speakers shouted „all 7 seconds a German soldier falls... Stalingrad mass grave“ (in German this rhymes) that was also a psychological weapon... this is the real terror of war... to us today unbelievable but bloody reality not even 100! Years ago...

Same thoughts I had when he asked. And they must have had cahones, not quite they were just thrown in and told to figure it out or else if you ain't got a gun wait for the gun in front to drop his. A German unit was tasked with taking a street it wasn't a particularly long street. Well it was 3 weeks and they still haven't made it half way up the block.

@@chaorazul_4477 With regard to the evacuation, Stalingrad itself in the early days of the war was the place where people were evacuated. "The first echelons with refugees began to arrive in the region at the end of June 1941. On July 25, 1941, 62,971 people were resettled in the districts of the Stalingrad region, 125 echelons with migrants passed through the Stalingrad evacuation point [GKUVO TsDNIVO, f. 113, op. 12, d. 52, l. 47]. According to the summary on the number of the evacuated population deployed in the Stalingrad region as of December 20, 1941, that is, upon completion of the first stage of the evacuation, 184,607 citizens were deployed in the region, which generally corresponded to the planned figure of 185,000 people [Ibid. . 32, fol. fourteen]. In the city of Stalingrad, together with the workers of the evacuated enterprises and their families, over 100 thousand people were accommodated. Thus, the total number of refugees from the western regions of the USSR was approximately 300 thousand people [GKUVO "GAVO", f r-2863, op. 1, d.8, l. 92]. As of December 1, 1943, there were 120 677 people within the region, including 17 980 men, 53 701 women and 48 996 children (up to 14 years old), who arrived from the following localities:" The following is a list of how many and where they came from. "As the front approaches the territory of the Stalingrad region, by the decision of the Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks and the Executive Committee of the Regional Council, a mass evacuation of cattle, collective farmers, workers and employees of the Zadonsk regions begins. In early August 1942, the evacuation of women and children who do not work in enterprises, institutions and By the time of the aerial bombardment on August 23, 1942, all the families of the command and control personnel and political personnel of the army, who had arrived in the order of evacuation from other regions, had been evacuated from Stalingrad. These families were placed in the districts of the Astrakhan District. In total, during this period, over 75 thousand women and children were removed from Stalingrad [GKUVO "GAVO", op. 1, d.8, l. 94]. Also during this period of time 63 orphanages with the number of pupils of 9000 people were evacuated outside the Stalingrad region: to the Molotov region - 4208 people; Uzbek SSR - 1404; Akhtuba region - 1135; Sverdlovsk region - 1320; Bashkir SSR - 730; Altai Territory - 200 [Ibid.]. Detachments of the people's volunteer corps and about 100 thousand civilians remained in the city, for various reasons were not evacuated across the Volga (Usik, 2007). By the decision of the Executive Committee of the Stalingrad Regional Council of September 19, 1942, 53,700 people were evacuated to the Sverdlovsk Region; Chelyabinsk region - 63,500; Altai Territory - 10,000; Omsk region - 5000; Saratov region - 2500; Gorky region - 16,000; Kirov region - 5000; Kuibyshev region - 5000; Chkalovsk region - 2500; Novo-Siberian - 5000; Udmurt ASSR - 4000 [GKUVO "GAVO", f r-2863, op. 1, d. 1, l. 6]. " I will single out one moment for the especially gifted - "In the city, there were units of the people's militia and about 100 thousand civilians, for various reasons not evacuated across the Volga." How did you imagine a war in general, in a state with 200 million inhabitants? The dictator got up in the morning, scratched his belly, drew a decree, like everyone should stand still and wait for a bullet in the head, and all such "well, ok", as you say boss. You have some primitive understanding of the issue.

I know I'm a bit late on this one, but I've got another song called "Stalingrad" you should listen to. It's a trilogy actually, by a pretty unknown German metal band called "Macbeth". Yes, the song is in German. They're called (in chronological order): "Stalingrad- Kanonenfutter" (Cannon fodder) "Stalingrad- Untergang" (Downfall) "Stalingrad- Das Kreuz" (The Cross) I know nobody would recommend them because they're pretty unknown outside of Thuringia/ Germany. But they're around since the GDR times, so like 40 years. Here's the link to part 1 of the trilogy: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kXikrdqcqs2zj9I.html

So I know it wouldn't be a song reaction, but you should try to find that video that goes over all the deaths for all the factions and shows it with little people and stuff. Really a sobering video.

Soviets made a one big mistake, they though that they could be the aggressor and take over their neighbour by force :) Winter war proved that it was not a good idea & teached them a pricey lesson that they used well against Nazis.

Russians were using that winter thing long before Finland was it's own country(it was a part of the Russian empire for about 110 years). Look up Napoleon's misadventures in Russia in the winter of 1812. Fighting a defensive war in harsh winter conditions is much easier than going on an offensive.

NOW THATS THE OLD SABATON I LIKE!!!! Next "Counterstrike" "Reign of terror" "Into the fire" And "Shotgun" (You could also do their slow songs like "the hammer has fallen" "purple heart" and "ballad of bull") (P.S. I'm getting all four of my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow even a reaction to some of the songs would be like an early birthday present.) Edit: I forgot about firestorm and unbreakable... omg there's too many, just binge Sabaton start to finish
