JMU Football Picks Up Experienced FCS Defensive Back in the Transfer Portal

Ойын-сауық

JMU has a young secondary that has a lot to prove this season. After the initial wave of transfers, it appeared that the Dukes would roll into 2024 anchored by a duo of returning corners in Chauncey Logan and freshman all-american D'Angelo Ponds. After the spring game though that plan went up in flames as Ponds entered the transfer portal and left for Indiana.
The Dukes went to work in the transfer portal and almost immediately landed a top FCS transfer portal target in Ja'Kai Young who comes to JMU after spending some time with the Gardner Webb Runnin' Bulldogs in Boiling Springs, NC.
Young comes to JMU after earning First Team All-OVC honors in 2023, posting 41 tackles and two interceptions. He’s an athletic corner/nickel with decent size (6′ and 180 lbs) who can help fill the void left by D’Angelo Ponds. He has one year of eligibility left.
